Step-by-step guide to the perfect eyeliner

You may have read my post recently about the launch of Essence make-up in the UK, a fantastically affordable range of make-up exclusive to Wilkinsons. Well here is another of their amazing budget make-up products – the 2in1 Eyeliner Pen.
Currently only available in black, this liquid eyeliner pen has 2 felt-tip type nibs – one thin and pointed, and the other thick with a flat nib a bit like a calligraphy pen.
I love anything that is multi-use and this liquid eyeliner doesn’t disappoint. The image below shows the thin nib:
The image below shows the thick nib:
You can use each nib to create a different eye look, or you can use them together to create a look. The thick nib would be perfect to create a dramatic 1960s style eye with no eyeshadow, just a thick line of black liner that wings up to a cats eye and lots of black mascara.
The swatch image below shows clearly the line that each nib gives:
The liner is quite liquid and you can see from the swatch image above that it has run a little bit into the creases in my skin. It doesn’t do this too much on the eye though as the skin around the eyeline is much smoother with less creases and lines.
Step by Step
I have been using both of the nibs together to create a winged black eyeliner effect, take a look at my step-by-step process below:
Step 1 – using the thin nib draw a line along the very inner corner of the upper lashline, then at the outer eye draw a thin line up in a continuation from your lower lashline to create a wing effect
Step 2 – using the thick nib join the two lines together, running the nib slowly along the top of your upper lashline, you can also thicken the ‘wing’ slightly too if you want to
Step 3 – use the thin nib to tidy up the line, you may need to colour in a little where the thick line meets the ‘wing’ and neaten up any rough edges
Here’s the finished effect once mascara has been added, what do you think? The mascara I am wearing is my favourite Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara.
I think that the finished effect looks really classy and it’s an easy way of creating a simple black eyeline with a flick at the outer eye. Plus it’s a 2-in-1 product so it saves you from having to buy 2 separate eyeliner products. I think this liquid eyeliner from Essence stands up against any other more premium eyeliner pen that I’ve tried, and it doesn’t break the bank either.
Essence 2in1 Eyeliner Pen is priced at a bargainous £2.50, available from Wilkinsons.
