Whilst in Superdrug a couple of weeks ago I picked up this Work The Colour Trio Eyeshadow in Poison Ivy from Collection (formally Collection 2000). Collection is a brand I haven’t really looked at before, as I’ve explained before I always used to avoid budget make-up brands as I thought you got what you paid for, but I have been proved wrong recently so I thought I’d give it a go.
Want to see what else I bought in my Superdrug haul? Have a look here.
This trio palette consists of three eyeshadow colours – a dark shimmery khaki green powder shadow, a bright mid-green powder shadow with a gold shimmer and finally a white shimmery cream shadow, plus a double-ended foam applicator (I actually don’t mind using these applicators as I find you get less powder drop-off than from a brush).
I love the fact that on the base of the palette there is a little diagram which suggests where on the eye you apply each colour – good for make-up beginners.
The diagram suggests you apply the palest shimmery white cream shadow under the brow bone, the bright mid-green all over the eyelid and then the darker green on the outer corner of the eyelid. The image below shows how the diagram translates into real life!
The first time I used this Collection palette I felt my eyelids tingling a little after I had first applied the shadow, but this soon subsided. I have used all of the colours since with no problem so I can only think my eyes must have just been having a sensitive day and possibly reacting to the cream shadow as I usually tend to wear powder shadows. I do find that after a couple of hours wearing these shadows there is a little bit of creasing in the eye socket, so a touch-up is necessary, but this cute little palette will easily slot into a handbag pocket for on-the-go application.
Green eyeshadows really suit those with blue eyes. For or a more dramatic evening look you could use the dark green shadow all over the eyelid, use a dark grey in the outer corners of the eyelid and then finish off with a thick slick of black eyeliner.
Despite the initial sensitivity I experienced I think that Work The Colour in Poison Ivy is a great little eyeshadow trio, and is great value at just £3.19.
UPDATE 09/03/2016 – Work The Colour Trio Eyeshadow is no longer available, but there are loads of other budget eyeshadow palettes from Collection available from Boots.
