Cocoa Brown Lovely Legs Spray Review

I was recently sent these Cocoa Brown by Marissa Carter tanning goodies to try out – the package included Lovely Legs Spray*, a sachet of Tough Stuff* scrub and a Self Tan Applicator Mitt*. Lovely Legs Spray is an instant wash-off tan, and I have to admit I’ve always been nervous about using wash-off tan products – I always have nightmares about getting stuck in a rain shower and ending up with tan streaked legs! However, this product is labelled as water-resistant so I was interested to see how well it held up.

Cocoa Brown Lovely Legs Spray

Lovely Legs Spray – as I’ve already mentioned Lovely Legs Spray is a spray-on instant wash-off tan ‘make-up’. It is marketed as being perfect for legs but I guess it could be used on any area of your body – I have also been using it on my arms – but just be careful to avoid any area that could be rubbed by clothing as it could come off. The best way to use it is to prepare the skin thoroughly first by exfoliating, then moisturising, to avoid any dry areas that will show up the tan unnecessarily.

The Lovely Legs should not be sprayed directly onto the skin, instead it should be sprayed onto a tanning mitt and then buffed evenly over the skin. I was a bit shocked by the dark orange colour when I first sprayed it onto the mitt, but the colour does lessen once it has been rubbed onto the legs. I do find that the colour is a little bit orange, but it applies evenly and easily and provided you buff it well it doesn’t leave any streaks as you can see from the ‘before and after’ photo below of my arm.

I do like the nice even coverage that this Lovely Legs Spray self-tan make-up gives, and the fact that it will cover up slight imperfections on the skin, however I think I would prefer something that I could spray directly onto the skin rather than having to apply it with an applicator mitt.

In terms of the Water-Resistant label I did find that the tan would withstand a light spray of water, however any more than that and it did start to run. I found it really quick and easy to remove in the shower though, with no streaks left behind.

Cocoa Brown Tough Stuff

Cocoa Brown Tough Stuff – this is a rough pink exfoliating scrub that should be used to thoroughly prepare the skin before self-tanning. It can be used with both permanent and wash-off tanning products, and helps to remove any dry areas on the skin that the tan will stick to and highlight.

I found that Tough Stuff was quite rough and a bit scratchy, but as long as you concentrate on the tougher parts of your skin, i.e. elbows, knees, ankles, then it doesn’t feel too bad. It definitely makes skin feel softer, and can also be used to remove stubborn old tan and prepare the skin for a new application.

If you’re going to buy Tough Stuff I would recommend you buy a 100ml tube rather than the small sachet, as it’s much better value for money.

Cocoa Brown Mitt

Cocoa Brown Self-Tan Applicator Mitt – I was also sent this self-tan applicator mitt to use to apply my Lovely Legs Spray. This product is pretty much the same as any other mitt that you can buy in Superdrug or Boots, but it’s certainly a must if you are going to be applying Lovely Legs Spray, given the dark colour of the product you don’t want to get it on your palms.

Cocoa Brown Lovely Legs Spray

My overall feelings about these Cocoa Brown by Marissa Carter products is that I like them. I like the branding and packaging and the fact that they are pink and will stand out on the shelf against the other usually-brown-packaged self-tan products. I’d still prefer to use a permanent self-tan product but this is a great substitute for those short-notice invitations when you haven’t got time to allow your permanent self-tan to develop, or just want a bit of instant colour. I think it would be great for actresses too who want a bit of colour on stage under the bright lights.

Cocoa Brown Lovely Legs Spray is priced at £8.99, Tough Stuff is priced at £5.99 for a 100ml tube and the Self Tan Applicator Mitt is priced at £2.99 – Cocoa Brown is available from Feel Unique.
