Clarins – Lipliner Pencils in Bay Rose & Chocolate

Is it just me or are there not many reviews of lip liner pencils on blogs these days? Perhaps it’s because a lip liner pencil is just one of those things that is a necessity but isn’t very exciting? Well all that is about to change! I’m on a one-woman mission to make lip liner pencils sexy again! Starting now:
I want to talk to you about these very lovely Lipliner Pencils* from Clarins in Bay Rose and Chocolate. They come packaged in the usual bright red Clarins boxes that I love so much.
Both of these Lipliner Pencils have a lovely soft texture and they are enriched with Vitamin E. They glide on easily around the lip line with no dragging – there’s nothing worse than a really hard lip pencil that hurts the delicate skin around the lips.
Not only can they be used as lip liners, they can also be used in place of lipstick all over the lip, the soft buttery texture means the colour rubs onto the lips evenly and cleanly. If you want a bit of shine just add a dab of gloss on top.
The swatch image above clearly shows the two different shades. I find that a good lipliner pencil will work with several different shades of lipstick, not just one that exactly matches.
Bay Rose is shown in the image above. It’s a dusky mid-pink tone, very similar to my lips’ natural colour only slightly darker. It works well with rose pink and dusky pink lipsticks, even reds if they have a pink tone to them. You can also use it with pale pinks as long as you apply it very sparingly.
Chocolate is shown in the image above. It’s a mid to dark brown and works well with all brown lipsticks, even nude shades – again as long as you apply it quite lightly. You don’t want to end up with the classic 1990’s dark liner and pale lip combo!
I’m a big fan of Clarins make-up and these Lipliner Pencils in Bay Rose and Chocolate didn’t disappoint. Clarins do tend to play it safe with their colour choices, but make up for this in the formulation and quality of their products. The only negative (and slightly odd) thing about these two Lipliner Pencils is that the outside of the pencil seems to attract dust for some reason! I think the plasticky coating of the pencil must create static or something like that…
Anyway, overall a great pair of lip pencils, I have been using Bay Rose non-stop for a week now – I find it goes really perfectly with one of my favourite lipsticks, e.l.f. Mineral Lipstick in Runway Pink. You might think these are a bit pricy for a pencil when compared with some of the budget brands that are out there, but personally I prefer to spend a bit more on lip pencils and just have a few good quality ones that work with many different shades of lipstick – rather than buying lots of cheap ones.
Lipliner Pencils in Bay Rose and Chocolate are priced at £17 each, available from Clarins.
