Cats and make-up are two of my favourite things and Paul & Joe Beaute manage to effortlessly combine these two elements to create some stunningly different and quirky limited edition make-up collections every year.
I was sent the new Christmas 2015 Masked Ball* makeup collection to try out and it’s a good one! The collection consists of four make-up items housed inside a cute satin pouch, with a mysterious and seductive masked ball theme. Of course the mask is cat’s eye shaped!
The zip-up satin make-up pouch features a cat woman on the front and has an extra pocket inside plus a slot inside the back. It’s a good size to keep inside a handbag or desk drawer.
Nestled inside the pouch are two eye products, one cheek product and one multi-tasking bodycare product:
Creamy Cheek Color – this is a little tube of cream blush and it’s so cute, the tube is decorated with little masks and cat faces. The shade is a mid pinky brown, the sort of colour that will suit most skin tones. To apply to the cheeks just squeeze a tiny blob onto one of the fingertips then pat it gently all across the fat part of the cheek for a rosy glow.
Waterproof Eye Liner – in the shade ‘noir’ this black eyeliner pencil propels by twisting the end. The pencil nib is quite wide and you can create a great 1960s smokey eye effect with it, it blends well too. Being waterproof it can be a bit difficult to remove at the end of the day though and you’ll need a good eye make-up remover (I use Garnier Cleansing Micellar Water).
The image above shows a swatch of both the Creamy Cheek Color and the Waterproof Eye Liner.
Eye Color – these are truly ingenious little sheets of powder eyeshadow, there are 5 sheets contained inside the yellow and blue candy striped cardboard packet. You just choose your colour then peel back the protective film and apply it normally with a brush or applicator. I’m not really sure how practical these eyeshadow are, but they’re certainly different to anything I’ve ever seen before and probably an item that’ll make its way into my ‘make-up that’s too special to use’ box.
Rose Treatment Balm – the last item in the pouch is a multi-tasking floral-scented balm that can be used all over the body. It’s perfect to use on dry skin, mix with a little eyeshadow to give a glossy finish or to tame the dry ends of your hair. The pale pink balm smells beautiful, and however you decide to use it just melt a little on your fingertips and you’re good to go!
The Masked Ball collection comes packaged in a cardboard box and it would make a great gift. The set is available in two different shades (the colours apply to the Eye Color and Creamy Cheek Color) the version that I have is called Le Bal Masque and is made up of dark earth tones, perfect for Winter. The other option is called Oh! Carnival and is a pretty pastel palette of feminine colours.
