KOREAN BEAUTY It’s not for dogs…

KOREAN BEAUTY It’s not for dogs…

“Is it for dogs?” was my husband’s first question when I showed him this Homme Terrior* All In One product from Korea! Obviously the name shows more than a slight resemblance to a type of dog here in the UK, but it’s definitely a product for men! I am currently taking part in an initiative working with BNT News International, a global beauty/fashion/lifestyle and entertainment source based in Seoul, South Korea. I am helping BNT to promote a selection of new and exciting Korean beauty products to a UK audience, these are products that you probably won’t have seen before and some of them are really different and unique. You may have already seen some of my previous Korean beauty reviews, such as this post about 3CE Long Wear Eye Crayon. This Homme Terrior All In One reminds me a bit of an aftershave from the 1970s with its strong black bottle and golden lion on the lid. I was actually a bit surprised when I received it from...

Essential oils for the cold weather

Essential oils for the cold weather

I love the idea of aromatherapy and what it can achieve, being able to change your mood just by inhaling a couple of drops of plant oil, even being able to heal the body by performing a simple massage. Essential oils start from just a couple of pounds for the cheaper ones but you really need to be careful and make sure you buy good quality – some suppliers dilute their oils or take the oil from the wrong part of the plant in order to try and save costs. I’ve recently discovered Buff & Butter, suppliers of aromatherapy oils and candle-making supplies. Their 100% natural essential oils can be purchased in varying size bottles – ideal for both those who are just dipping their toe in the world of aromatherapy and practitioners who want to buy in bulk. I chose five essential oils that are ideal for the cold weather: Lavender – chances are you’ve heard about the therapeutic benefits of lavender oil already. It’s so versatile and I just...

I’m changing my toothpaste to flouride-free JASON Powersmile

I’m changing my toothpaste to flouride-free JASON Powersmile

As regular readers of Beauty Best Friend will know I’m a big fan of natural beauty products, but I’ve never actually tried a natural toothpaste. When you think about it it’s really important that we know what ingredients are in our toothpastes as they go in our mouths and therefore a small percentage will end up in our stomachs – imagine just how much toothpaste you actually swallow throughout your whole lifetime! I was sent this Powersmile Toothpaste from natural care brand JASON to try out. The word ‘jason’ means ‘healer’ in Greek and the brand only selects wholesome natural ingredients for its products. Their range is free from parabens, mineral oils and sodium laureth sulfates, plus the toothpaste is fluoride-free too. Did you know that ingesting fluoride has been linked to neurological disorders and IQ deficiencies in children? And yet it is in our toothpastes and added to our drinking water! Many believe that the benefits of fluoride far outweigh the dangers, but if you want to try and...

Roger & Gallet – Precious Revitalizing Balm

Roger & Gallet – Precious Revitalizing Balm

Roger & Gallet are really good at taking one of their fragrances and then developing lots of bodycare products around it. They’ve recently released a new collection of moisturising body balms in three of their bestselling fragrances – Fleur d’Osmanthus, Fleur de Figuier and Rose. This trio of balms has been created to nourish and cocoon the skin in comfort whilst adding a gentle scent. I was sent the Precious Revitalizing Balm in the Fleur d’Osmanthus* to try out. Roger & Gallet suggest that the Fleur d’Osmanthus fragrance ‘transports you into a Chinese Garden of Eden’, it’s made up of the scent of the Osmanthus flower plus mandarin, grapefruit and benzoin essential oils. It’s quite a floral bouquet with a note of white tea. Personally it’s not my favourite of Roger & Gallet’s scents, it’s a bit too floral and Summery for me. My first observation was that the fragrance is quite strong with this body balm so it’s perfect for layering with the other products in this collection – including the Sorbet...

Neal’s Yard Remedies Blogger Event, Leeds

Neal’s Yard Remedies Blogger Event, Leeds

A couple of weeks ago I was invited to the Neal’s Yard Remedies store in Victoria Quarter, Leeds, to their blogger day. Their aim was to educate bloggers from around the Yorkshire area about their natural skincare and bodycare products. I recently reviewed their amazing Mothers Bath Oil but I have to admit that this was the only product from Neal’s Yard Remedies that I’d tried so I was looking forward to finding out more. I was welcomed to the store with a glass of fizz and a selection of superb vegan canapés… The event was very informal, first of all I chatted to one of their staff (really sorry I can’t remember her name!) and she told me about the background of Neal’s Yard Remedies – starting off in the back streets of Covent Garden 30 years ago and developing into a national brand. We then discussed my skincare regime and which of their products might be right for me. One of the products she recommended was Wild Rose...

Sleep In A Box!

Sleep In A Box!

I go through phases where I suffer from terrible insomnia so I’m always eager to try out new products that promise to help you drift off to sleep. I was given this set from Sanctuary Spa after I gave birth to my daughter last September, and given that I was feeling rather run down and tired I welcomed anything that encouraged me to pamper myself. Containing mini versions of four of Sanctuary Spa’s bodycare products from their Sleep range, this Sleep-In-A-Box contains everything you need to give yourself a little bit of a treat before bedtime. There’s a helpful guide inside the lid as to how to use the products – starting with a long warm bath filled with Calming Luxury Bath Float, then exfoliating away any dry skin using Smoothing Silk Polish. After the bath you can massage Restoring Body Oil into aching muscles (even better get your partner to do this!) and finish off by hydrating skin with Comforting Night Butter. The ingredients of the products include...

Crabtree & Evelyn – Citron Moisturising Hand Therapy

Crabtree & Evelyn – Citron Moisturising Hand Therapy

Just a really quick review today of Citron Moisturising Hand Therapy from Crabtree & Evelyn. Last Spring I attended a Garden Celebration blogger event at my local Crabtree & Evelyn store in York. I was pleasantly surprised with their products and have since tried out a few, including this rich hand cream. Crabtree & Evelyn Moisturising Hand Therapy is free of parabens, lauryl sulfates, mineral oil, and propylene glycol and it improves the skin’s barrier function to help reduce moisture loss. Fragranced with vibrant lemon, fresh coriander and a touch of sweet honey it has a fresh Spring-like scent. I’ve been using this for a couple of months now and it’s perfect to protect the hands during cold weather. It’s amazing on cuticles too – just massage a tiny smudge into the nails after a manicure. Crabtree & Evelyn’s Citron fragrance is also available in loads of other products too, including body mist, soap and shower gel. I’ve also tried the Citron Hand Wash at a friend’s house and I couldn’t...

Don’t let the cold hold you back!

Don’t let the cold hold you back!

A couple of weeks before Christmas I was lucky enough to receive a parcel of skincare goodies from Badger Balm. Badger Balm is a family business, started in the USA in 1995, that makes organic cruelty-free skincare products and balms. I love their ethics and I’ve previously reviewed a couple of their balms before – I use Badger Sleep Balm every night to help me get to sleep. I was so excited to receive this package, it felt like Christmas had come early! Nestled inside the box were three tins of Badger’s famous balms, plus a Lip Balm and a bottle of Hair Oil. All of the items are recommended to help protect your skin and body from the cold Winter weather and to help soothe and calm. Badger Sleep Balm – this is a relaxing natural balm with a blend of essential oils that help to soothe you to sleep. I’ve already reviewed this product here and I use it every night! Badger Sleep Balm is priced at £5.99...
