Beauty Best Friend gets crafty!

Something a bit different for you today…. I’ve always loved crafts and ever since I was a little girl I’ve been making jewellery, toys, accessories and home decor items. So I wanted to share this picture that I made last week to remind me of a recent family trip to Norfolk.
Whilst we were away on our long weekend we took the steam train on the North Norfolk railway from Sheringham to Holt which is a lovely little market town with loads of independent gift boutiques and cafes. I just loved the traditional style of the train tickets, they reminded me of when I was a little girl and my dad used to take me on steam trains! They’re so much nicer than the flimsy printed tickets you get on trains nowadays (that makes me sound really old doesn’t it!). So I decided to make the tickets into a little memento of our trip….
I found the frame in a charity shop for 50p, it was a dark wood colour and had a picture of some daffodils in it! So I took it apart and painted it with some left-over white emulsion (if you haven’t got any spare paint lying around you can pick up a tester pot for as little as £1). Then I found an old map of Norfolk and cut out a rectangle that would fit exactly inside the frame – I think the pale pastel colours of the map fit nicely with the clean white frame. I secured the tickets to the map with a couple of dabs of glue, then put the frame back together. The picture is going to hang in our newly-decorated spare room.
I hope I’ve inspired some of you to have a go at making some of your own home accessories. It just shows that nice decorations don’t have to cost the earth.
I’d love to know about your favourite craft blogs too.
