Protect skin this Spring!

Protect skin this Spring!

So I know it’s still a long way off Summer but we’ve had a few bright days over the last week that suggest Spring is just around the corner. It doesn’t have to be the height of Summer for you to get sunburn, sometimes you can get caught when you’re least expecting it like on a breezy Spring day. We had a weekend away in the Peak District with family recently and I took ERiiS for Sun Latte Solare Sun Protection Milk with me to try it out. With one baby, one toddler and one dog we had lots of walking planned, and the weather was bright and sunny but cool – the sort of weather when you can easily get caught by the sun when you’re not prepared. ERiiS for Sun is an Italian brand, free from parabens and the active ingredients include carrot extract, a rich source of beta carotene that helps to repair skin tissue. Available in SPF 15, 30 and 50 there’s a protection to...

La Roche-Posay – Anthelios XL Suncream

La Roche-Posay – Anthelios XL Suncream

Haven’t we been having the loveliest sunny weather recently here in the UK? I’ve loved waking up to sunshine, and it’s also given me a great opportunity to test out these 50+ SPF suncreams from La Roche-Posay. Designed for sensitive and sun intolerant skin these Anthelios XL products contain very high protection from both UVA and UVB rays (UVA rays are the ones that age our skin, and UVB rays are the ones that burn us). La Roche-Posay Anthelios XL Tinted Fluid* was the first of the two suncream products that I tried out. It’s really light, almost like a liquid so you have to be careful you don’t drip any when you’re applying it, plus it’s tinted a dark brown colour although the colour doesn’t look quite so dark once you’ve applied it. It feels a bit like a BB Cream (Beauty Balm Cream) once you’ve applied it to your face, although with it being so light in texture you would still need to apply a foundation product...

Stay safe in the sun

Stay safe in the sun

Here in the UK our Summer weather can be mixed, with the dull rainy days often outnumbering the sunny ones. Everyone knows how important it is to protect our skin from the sun’s harmful rays on the hot sunny days, but did you know it’s really important to protect your skin from the sun all year round? Even on cloudy days the UVA and UVB rays from the sun reach our skin and contribute to premature ageing and wrinkling at best…. and skin cancer at worst. There are loads of ways to help protect skin from the sun, here are just a few suggestions… I always wear a day moisturiser that contains SPF15 or higher to help protect my face from the sun when I’m out and about. So many women spend a fortune on moisturiser that promises to delay aging and help keep them looking young, yet they don’t realise that without SPF the sun is prematurely aging their skin. There are more and more make-up products available...

Clarins – HydraQuench Tinted Moisturizer

Clarins – HydraQuench Tinted Moisturizer

Today I am reviewing a new Clarins product, HydraQuench Tinted Moisturizer*. I have combination skin with an oily nose and chin, but dry cheeks and forehead and I regularly use Clarins HydraQuench Lotion SPF15 as it suits my skin perfectly – you can read my review of that here. So when I was asked if I would like to try this Tinted Moisturizer from the HydraQuench family I didn’t need to think twice about it. I have been using the Sand shade which is the second lightest shade, a pale tan with a pinky undertone. It would be too dark for my pale skin in the Winter, but with a light tan in the Spring and Summer it is a good match. There are  7 shades available which range from Porcelain to Bronze. The ingredients include hyaluronic acid and Katafray bark extract which ‘help to restore the skin’s radiance and promote a natural looking healthy-glow’. I find this HydraQuench Tinted Moisturizer very easy to apply, I have been applying...

Tesco Soleil – Bronzing Protection Sun Lotion & Tinted Bronzing Lotion

Tesco Soleil – Bronzing Protection Sun Lotion & Tinted Bronzing Lotion

Last Bank Holiday weekend here in York the weather was lovely and sunny, so it was a perfect time for me to review this Bronzing Protection Sun Lotion* and Tinted Bronzing Lotion* from the Tesco Soleil range. I do find that the Tesco own-brand suncare products are great value for money and it’s always really convenient to be able to pick up beauty and skincare products whilst you are doing your weekly grocery shop. Soleil Bronzing Protection Sun Lotion – this sun lotion is very similar to any other standard sun lotion but much better value than brands like Nivea, etc. It has a medium SPF protection of 15, which is generally around the coverage that I like to use (I have fair skin but it tans quite easily without burning). It is a medium consistency lotion with a feint coconutty scent and it sinks into the skin fairly quickly. I have to point out that this lotion really isn’t sticky at all, which is one of the things...

e.l.f. – Tinted Moisturiser SPF 15

e.l.f. – Tinted Moisturiser SPF 15

I have recently been testing out a few goodies from New York budget make-up brand e.l.f. (stands for Eyes Lips Face), and I have been fairly impressed with this little tube of tinted moisturiser. I do have to say it is a VERY little tube, just 12g! But it’s a great size for tucking inside a make-up bag or handbag and it’s great value too. It comes in a cardboard blister pack (pictured below) which I kind of like, it gives it an accessible ‘available to everyone’ kind of feel. If you’re a regular reader of Beauty Best Friend you will know that I like to protect my face from the sun during the day and this tinted moisturiser contains SPF15 which is enough to protect your face from the average everyday sunshine. e.l.f. Tinted Moisturiser SPF 15 is available in a choice of 7 shades, I chose ‘Rosy Beige’ which is a tanned beige colour with a hint of rosy pink. It does have quite an orangey tan to...

Monu – Hydrating Moisturiser SPF15

Monu – Hydrating Moisturiser SPF15

This Hydrating Moisturiser SPF15 from ethical skincare brand Monu was in my June Glossybox. This is the first product from Monu that I have tried and I have been pleasantly surprised. Monu is an ethical skincare brand, they are against animal testing and their products contain no synthetic perfumes or colours. This Hydrating Moisturiser SPF15 is suitable for all skin types and contains zinc oxide for sun protection, plus antioxidant vitamin E, and is paraben free. First things first, as the product is quite thick it is really difficult to get it out of the bottle! No amount of shaking will dispense the moisturiser, and after a big squeeze of the bottle you are left with a huge blob of moisturiser too big for use on just one face. However, this is just a sample size bottle for Glossybox distribution, and I do believe that the full size version of this product has a pump dispenser. Despite the Monu Hydrating Moisturiser SPF15 being quite thick it does sink into...

Coola – Mineral Sunscreen Rose Essence Tinted Moisturiser SPF20

Coola – Mineral Sunscreen Rose Essence Tinted Moisturiser SPF20

This Coola Mineral Sunscreen Rose Essence Tinted Moisturiser SPF 20 was in my July Glossybox. I was rather disappointed with the small 7ml size tube as I don’t really feel it is enough to get a good feel for the product, but given the recent sunny weather and the fact that I always like to protect my face from the sun this was a great product for me. If you haven’t heard of Coola before they are an innovative sun protection brand whose products are 97% certified organic and manufactured using solar power. Their mineral sunscreens have a Titanium Dioxide based formula which is perfect for those who are sensitive to Zinc which is found in many off-the-shelf suncreams. This Tinted Moisturiser is fairly thin and liquid-y, making it easy to apply and blend on the skin. It comes out of the tube rather orange, but once it is applied to the skin it just gives a very fine coverage with a light hint of colour – fine for...
