Collection – Volume Sensation Lipstick in Satin Bow

Collection – Volume Sensation Lipstick in Satin Bow

Whilst I was doing the weekly shop in Tesco a couple of weeks ago I picked up this Volume Sensation Lipstick from budget make-up experts Collection (formerly Collection 2000). The Volume Sensation range contains plumping ingredients which are supposed to make your lips look fuller. First, let me start with the packaging. I’m not actually too keen on the reddy-pink tube as I think it looks a bit cheap, but it certainly does look different to all of the other budget lipsticks that are out there, most of which have black tubes. The tube is quite thick and chunky and doesn’t feel flimsy at all, it’s good and strong and the twist function works well. I was looking for something creamy and nude so I went for the Satin Bow shade. It’s a peachy nude shade, with a warm tone – perfect for Spring. It’s quite sheer and it has the most amazing taste and scent of vanilla. The texture feels creamy on the lips, it feels much more...

Ted Baker – Sweet On You Nail Duo

Ted Baker – Sweet On You Nail Duo

This Sweet On You Nail Duo from Ted Baker was a birthday gift from a good friend way back in March. The two nail polishes come packaged in a cute little box designed to look like an old fashioned sweet shop. The first polish is called Sweet On You and it’s a lovely peachy pink colour which looks really glossy when used on its own – take a look at the top photo, you can see how shiny it is and I haven’t even used a top coat. It only needs a couple of coats for a good coverage and applies really easily although the brush is very thin and the lid is quite big so it’s a bit tricky to apply it carefully and needs patience. The second polish is called Champagne Sundays and it’s a dusky rose coloured glitter suspended in a clear polish. There are two sizes of glitter – large hexagons and tiny flecks – both the same colour. You can either use Champagne Sundays...

Sleek – Blush By 3 In Pink Lemonade

Sleek – Blush By 3 In Pink Lemonade

I’m such a big fan of Sleek make-up, their black palettes are stylish yet affordable and most of the products are readily available at good Superdrug stores. When I saw that they had brought out this new Blush By 3 palette in Pink Lemonade I just had to have it as I was running low on good blush colours and these ones looked really natural and suitable for paler skins. Sleek’s Blush By 3 is a palette that contains 3 different rectangular blush colours, in the case of this Pink Lemonade palette the two outer blushes are pressed powder and the centre one is a cream blush. I wasn’t too sure what to expect from the cream blush really as I generally use powder blushes, plus I have found in the past that if you mix cream and powder products in one palette you tend to end up with loose powder granules stuck in the cream products (anyone remember those huge cheap multi-palettes that Argos used to do?). I...

Collection – Work The Colour Solo Eyeshadow in Rosy Gold

Collection – Work The Colour Solo Eyeshadow in Rosy Gold

I picked up this Work The Colour Solo Eyeshadow from my local supermarket when I was doing my weekly shop as I thought it looked a lovely natural shimmery colour. I wasn’t able to swatch it in the store to check the colour on my skin, but at £2.19 you can afford to buy without trying. Collection (formally Collection 2000) are a budget make-up brand available in supermarkets and Superdrug. I previously tested out their Work The Colour Trio Eyeshadow in Poison Ivy and was impressed with the quality given that it cost so little money (you can read that review here). The eyeshadow is a nice soft powder with a creamy texture, extremely easy to apply with a brush or a sponge applicator. Rosy Gold is a pale shimmery peachy colour but in certain lights it has a golden glow. I haven’t had chance to take a photo of this eyeshadow actually being worn, but you can see the lovely shimmer you get from Rosy Gold on the...

MUA – Eyeshadow Trio in Legendary

MUA – Eyeshadow Trio in Legendary

A couple of months ago I purchased a huge MUA make-up haul, and included within it was this Trio Eyeshadow in Legendary. I really love MUA’s budget make-up and it’s great for trying out new colours and trends if you don’t want to shell out a lot of money. Want to see what else I bought in my MUA haul? Have a look here. This MUA Eyeshadow Trio palette consists of three eyeshadow colours – a dark pinky brown powder shadow with ripples of chocolate brown running through it, a pinky peach powder shadow with undertones of gold and finally a pale cream coloured powder shadow with ripples of pink and chocolate running through it. The rippled colour effects remind me a bit of ice cream! Nestled inside the palette there is also a small double-ended foam applicator – I don’t usually mind using these applicators as I find you get less powder drop-off than from a brush, but the thin end on this one is very difficult to...

MUA Blusher – Shade 2

MUA Blusher – Shade 2

Up until about 3 months ago I had always been a bit of a beauty snob and thought that you got what you paid for with make-up, and that all of the new budget beauty brands that are emerging couldn’t have been any good. But there is a brand that has now changed my mind, and that is MUA. Available online and from Superdrug, MUA (short for Makeup Academy) offers a huge range of budget make-up which starts from just £1…. yes, you read that correctly, just £1! So today I am reviewing MUA Blusher in Shade 2, could it be the best-value blusher in the world?! MUA Blusher in Shade 2 is a peach-coloured pressed powder blusher in a small rectangular compact. I don’t normally go for peach or orange based blushers, usually sticking to more bluey-pinks, but I thought it might be nice for the Summer months to wear when I have a tan. The colour applies quite sparingly to the cheeks and you need to apply several layers...

Benefit – Girl Meets Pearl

Benefit – Girl Meets Pearl

Benefit decsribes Girl Meets Pearl as ‘liquid pearl for the face’, it’s basically a liquid highlighter that can be used on cheeks or all over the face for a dewy glow. I love Benefit products, their packaging and product names are really quirky and they develop such innovative products, not to mention their amazing handbag-sized boxed collections of their best-sellers. Girl Meets Pearl can be worn on its own to give a delicate luminous pearlessence, or it can be worn over make-up for a subtle dewy glow. To dispense the product just remove the lid then twist the end of the tube and the product comes up through the little holes at the end of tube – then pat it gently onto your skin with your fingers. You should only dispense a little at a time as less is most definitely more with this product – you don’t want to end up with a face like a shiny oil slick! I like to wear Girl Meets Pearl over my...

Barry M – Peach Melba Nail Paint

Barry M – Peach Melba Nail Paint

I am currently wearing this Barry M Nail Paint in Peach Melba on both my fingers and toes and I just LOVE it! I bought it in my Superdrug Haul a couple of weeks ago, choosing it because I had already picked 2 Barry M Nail Paints and needed another to get 3 for 2. I’m so glad I picked this one! The nail paint applies fairly thinly – in the image above I have applied three coats – but on the plus side each thin coat dries really quickly. It is also really glossy and doesn’t really need a top coat, although you could apply one if you wanted extra shine. The colour is a really vibrant, bright peach colour – more of a neon than a pastel – and it gives a great pop of colour looking amazing with a tan. I think it has the added effect of making your skin look even more tanned than it is!  I also find that Barry M nail paints are really...
