Christmas treats from Roger & Gallet

Christmas treats from Roger & Gallet

Well, it’s December so we’re officially allowed to think about Christmas! And when we think about Christmas we have to talk about one of the brands that does gifts so well – Roger & Gallet. I’ve reviewed several of their products in the past, in particular their fragrances and hand creams, and they all make perfect gifts as their packaging is so beautiful. Today I’m reviewing two items from the Bois d’Orange fragrance collection: Bois d’Orange Eau Fraiche Parfumee* – I’d expected this Fragrant Water to smell really fruity and orangey but it doesn’t. The scent is supposed to encompass the leaves, flowers and wood of the orange tree as well as the fruit, so it’s more woody and musky than just an orange fragrance. I think it smells quite classic and traditional. The scent is quite light as this is a fragrant water rather than a perfume, and it’s unisex so suitable for both men and women. The smooth glass bottle with its yellow and gold label doesn’t...

SWIG Hip Flask

SWIG Hip Flask

Yes, I know, you might not want to hear the C word just yet but if you’re anything like me you’ll already be planning what gifts you’re going to buy for your friends and family this Christmas. There’s always that one person on your gift list that’s really hard to buy for – either they haven’t got any interests or hobbies or they’ve already got everything they want. So when I heard about SWIG Hip Flasks I thought this would be a perfect present! A British brand set up in North London in 2013, SWIG produce luxury hip flasks that are designed to last for generations, there’s a lovely story on the SWIG website describing the trials and tribulations of setting up the business – well worth a read! I was sent the SWIG Executive Moulded Orange Flask* from the SWIG Executive range. Of course ‘orange’ describes the pouch rather than the hip flask itself – all SWIG hip flasks are made from seamless stainless steel and have a...

eBay Owl/Fox Handbag

eBay Owl/Fox Handbag

I just couldn’t resist sharing this cute handbag that I purchased from eBay recently! I’m not quite sure if it’s supposed to be an owl or a fox, but both are currently in fashion and I just think it’s so cute! The press stud on it’s little nose unfastens to open up the bag, and whilst there are no separate pockets inside it’s quite a decent size to fit your everyday essentials in. The strap is quite a good length, and it’s adjustable too using buckles so you could wear it across the body or over one shoulder. It looks a bit like leather although I think it’s probably made from plastic given the cheap price! But it’s good value, and it comes in 6 different colours. I went for the orange as I think that’s the most fox-like colour, but I think the brown looks good too. I’ve already had lots of positive comments when I’ve been using my fox/owl bag, it’s the perfect size to use when meeting...

Botanicals – Orange Blossom Body Balm

Botanicals – Orange Blossom Body Balm

If you’re a regular reader of Beauty Best Friend then you’ll know that one of my favourite skincare brands is Botanicals. All of Botanicals’ products are blended by hand in rural England and contain no no petrochemicals or synthetic additives. Botanicals say their aim is ‘to provide a range of personal care products which are as close to nature as possible’ and their products are approved by the Soil Association, are suitable for vegans and are never tested on animals. I’ve tried a few of their facial skincare products over the past year and been really impressed with all of them, for example Nourishing Face Balm is a great natural moisturiser. Orange Blossom Body Balm is the first bodycare product I’ve tried from Botanicals, it’s a conditioning and nourishing natural balm that helps soften the skin and supports the skin’s natural ability to heal and regenerate new skin cells. The ingredients include shea butter, cold pressed jojoba oil and a selection of natural essential oils. The full list of...

Home fragrance from Orla Kiely

Home fragrance from Orla Kiely

You might know Orla Kiely as a textile designer and creator of bright prints that feature simple repetitive leaves and floral patterns. But did you know that Orla Kiely also offers a range of home fragrance products that include candles and diffusers? I have to admit that I didn’t, so I was very excited when I was sent this Orange Rind Scented Candle* to try! I love home fragrance products, I think a house that smells good feels so much better to live in, and I’m trying to increase the number of candle and home fragrance reviews that I write here on Beauty Best Friend. Orla Kiely candles come in 9 different scents, I’ve been trying out Orange Rind, but other fragrances include Sicilian Lemon and Rhubarb – they all sound quite zingy which I think matches perfectly with the bold prints of Orla Kiely textiles! I love fruity scents so Orange Rind is perfect for me (although I’m not keen on the ‘Rind’ name, it reminds me of a shrivelled...

Clarins – Instant Light Lip Balm Perfectors

Clarins – Instant Light Lip Balm Perfectors

I was so excited when I was sent these Instant Light Lip Balm Perfectors* from Clarins – I’m a big fan of Clarins products, plus I love any lip product that’s sheer and creamy, and I’d read such good things about these when they first came out in January. As with all Clarins products Instant Light Lip Balm Perfectors come in the bright crimson boxes: Despite their name Instant Light Lip Balm Perfectors are more like a lip tint than a lip balm, they have the texture of a hydrating balm but quite a highly pigmented coloured tint that gives the lips a hit of colour. I was sent 2 shades to try, Orange and My Pink. Orange is… well… an obvious orange shade! But My Pink is almost magic, it’s a pale pink shade and the sensitive pigments react to the pH level of your lips creating a bespoke pink colour that’s personal to you! It works in a similar way to Dior Addict Lip Glow Color Reviver Balm...

Pure & Light Organic – Essential Floral Toner Review

Pure & Light Organic – Essential Floral Toner Review

I hadn’t heard of Pure & Light Organic before I tried this product, so I’ve done a bit of research. The brand was set up by Agnes Donazy over a decade ago when she started to develop extreme skin sensitivity due to reactions to chemicals, so she decided to set up her own natural skincare brand. Pure & Light Organic products are 100% natural and non-toxic, and never contain unnecessary ingredients. I have been testing out Essential Floral Toner*, it’s a natural liquid toner that contains orange blossom, geranium and rosemary. Essential Floral Toner is packaged in a tall, thin silver tube with a spray nozzle. I quite like the packaging it looks quite premium, and the box comes packaged inside a white branded cardboard box. Essential Floral Toner is suitable for most skin types, and it aims to promote skin moisture retention and calm and soothe the effects of irritation. I have been using it at night after cleansing my skin with Soap & Glory Peaches And Clean Cleanser,...

Neon Chevron French Mani Tutorial

Neon Chevron French Mani Tutorial

I love a classic French manicure but in the Summer it’s great to funk it up a little bit and create something zingy. I was recently sent these W7 Nail Polishes in Orange Sorbet* and Lemon Sorbet* and I thought they’d create a great alternative French manicure. Here is my simple step-by-step tutorial to creating this bright Neon Chevron French Mani. Here is the kit that you will need: 2 bright co-ordinating nail polishes – I used W7 Nail Polishes in Orange Sorbet and Lemon Sorbet French Nail Tip Guide stickers in a chevron shape A clear top coat nail polish – I use Chanel Extreme Shine Nail Lacquer Tweezers First, paint all of your nails with two coats of one of the nail polishes and allow the nails to dry thoroughly. I used Orange Sorbet as my main colour. Once the polish on your nails is completely dry carefully stick a French Nail Tip Guide over the tip of each nail. I place them on gently at first...
