Have you tried this cult lip balm?

Have you tried this cult lip balm?

So before I launch into my review of this lip balm I just wanted to give readers a quick update on why my blog has been so quiet for the past couple of weeks. Don’t worry, I haven’t gone anywhere! Since having my baby daughter last September spare time has been quite limited for me so I’ve had to carefully balance my time and squeeze in the taking of blog photos and writing of blog posts between nappy changes, feeds and cuddles. Then a couple of weeks ago I volunteered to help out a local charity with the revamp of their website – it needed a bit more work than I had originally anticipated so most of my free time over the past week or so has been taken up with that. Anyway, I’ve got a bit of a backlog of beauty products to review and I’m trying to fit in blogging where I can, but I’ll be back up to full speed very soon, you’ll just have to bear...

Crabtree & Evelyn – Citron Moisturising Hand Therapy

Crabtree & Evelyn – Citron Moisturising Hand Therapy

Just a really quick review today of Citron Moisturising Hand Therapy from Crabtree & Evelyn. Last Spring I attended a Garden Celebration blogger event at my local Crabtree & Evelyn store in York. I was pleasantly surprised with their products and have since tried out a few, including this rich hand cream. Crabtree & Evelyn Moisturising Hand Therapy is free of parabens, lauryl sulfates, mineral oil, and propylene glycol and it improves the skin’s barrier function to help reduce moisture loss. Fragranced with vibrant lemon, fresh coriander and a touch of sweet honey it has a fresh Spring-like scent. I’ve been using this for a couple of months now and it’s perfect to protect the hands during cold weather. It’s amazing on cuticles too – just massage a tiny smudge into the nails after a manicure. Crabtree & Evelyn’s Citron fragrance is also available in loads of other products too, including body mist, soap and shower gel. I’ve also tried the Citron Hand Wash at a friend’s house and I couldn’t...

Why you shouldn’t be afraid of using oils on your skin

Why you shouldn’t be afraid of using oils on your skin

The skincare shelves are full of oils these days…. oils for cleansing, oils for moisturising, oils to be used as serums…. but a lot of people are still a bit scared of using an oil product on their skin, particularly if they have oily skin as they believe that these products will exacerbate the problem. I have combination skin, with a very oily nose and chin and dry, flaky forehead and cheeks, and have been using oil products on my skin for around 2 years now with great results. When I was younger I was very scared of using rich moisturisers and oils on my chin, convinced they would make the oiliness worse and cause spots. As a result I often didn’t apply enough moisturiser and the oiliness started to get worse – this was my skin over-compensating for the lack of moisture I was giving it. Now I understand a lot better how the skin works and I am able to treat it much more kindly. Firstly I...

UK Launch of Essence Make-Up

UK Launch of Essence Make-Up

Essence make-up has been around overseas since 2002 but has only recently been launched in the UK. Unfortunately I was unable to make it to their launch party but I was kindly sent a selection of Essence make-up to try. My first impressions of Essence is good, the products and packaging remind me a bit of Rimmel London and I feel they are aimed at girls aged 12-18 although they would suit anyone looking for make-up on a budget. I will be reviewing 3 Essence make-up products today, and I have another couple of items (including a glitter nail varnish) that I will be reviewing over the coming weeks. The first product that I tried was Essence Pureskin Anti-Spot Moisturizing Make-Up*, a light foundation designed to help fight spots and blackheads which contains Clearderm Complex that fights spots and also zinc and bisabolol which help speed up the healing process. The product is fairly light, a bit like a cross between a foundation and a tinted moisturiser and it...

Clarins – Pure And Radiant Mask

Clarins – Pure And Radiant Mask

The New Year is traditionally a time when people detox and try different ways to re-energise and rejuvenate their bodies after a busy and excessive Christmas period, and it’s no different for our skin. So when the lovely people at Clarins asked me if I would like to review one of their products in the New Year I said I would like to review a skincare product that would be perfect for tired and dehydrated skin, and they sent me this Pure And Radiant Mask from their Truly Matte range. Pure And Radiant is a deep-purifying mask that contains refreshing Pink Clay. It aims to clean and tighten the skin whilst refining pores, leaving a fresh matte result. It also helps to  comfort red or irritated skin which is perfect for this time of year. The mask has a soft creamy texture, is very pale peach (almost white) in colour and has a gentle divine scent. In fact when I think about it I love the smell of most...

Clarins – HydraQuench Intensive Serum Bi-Phase

Clarins – HydraQuench Intensive Serum Bi-Phase

I know I post a lot of reviews of Clarins products, but that’s because I’ve been using them for a long while and I really like them. Today I am talking about a sample of HydraQuench Intensive Serum Bi-Phase that I received the last time I ordered some Clarins products, however I have also purchased and used this in the past. Serums are big news at the moment, offering to give your skin that extra moisture or radiance boost. This one aims to help your skin restore lost moisture, keeping it moisturised, comfortable and plump.   A couple of weeks before Christmas I was in bed with a virus for a few days, and without my normal skincare regime my skin felt dry and tight. After 4-5 days of applying HydraQuench Intensive Serum Bi-Phase before bed at night, followed by my regular moisturiser, my skin was back to normal. The serum should be applied once a day, either morning or night, to cleansed skin, then followed up with your...

Ahava – DeadSea Water Mineral Body Lotion

Ahava – DeadSea Water Mineral Body Lotion

This week I was asked to try DeadSea Water Mineral Body Lotion* from Ahava. You may not have heard of Ahava before, the brand was formed in 1988 when they started doing clinical research into the powerful effects of the Dead Sea’s rich selection of minerals in facilitating skin renewal. All Ahava products are paraben free, SLS free, not tested on animals, and contain the Osmoter™ — a perfectly balanced concentrate of Dead Sea minerals that effective replenishes, rehydrates and recharges the skin. This Mineral Body Lotion is a white cream. As you can see from the image below it is ever so slightly gelatinous with a sort of lumpy texture to it and I think it is this that allows it to melt into the skin really quickly. I had expected that this Mineral Body Lotion would have some kind of natural seaweed-y smell given that it contains minerals from the Dead Sea, however it has a very strong traditional floral scent. Personally the fragrance is too strong...

L’Occitane – Verbena Moisturizing Hand Lotion

L’Occitane – Verbena Moisturizing Hand Lotion

Today I wanted to share my favourite hand lotion with you… this is what I have on the side of the sink in my bathroom – Verbena Moisturizing Hand Lotion from L’Occitane. This hand cream smells so lovely and lemony, plus the bottle looks great in the bathroom with its traditional style label. I have been using Verbena Moisturizing Hand Lotion for ages. I first discovered it in the toilets of a rather swanky office in London where I used to go in a previous life for meetings as a marketing manager. I always used to make my excuses and pop to the toilet just to put on some hand cream! Fast forward a few years and now everyone who visits our home tries it and comments on how lovely it is! The lotion contains organic verbena extract – verbena is a lemony scented plant – and this is what gives it the heavenly scent. Only a little squirt is needed for the hands, as a little goes a...
