Max Factor – Velvet Volume False Lash Effect Mascara

Max Factor – Velvet Volume False Lash Effect Mascara

Max Factor is one of my go-to brands for mascara, for years I wore their 2000 Calorie Mascara before discovering False Lash Effect Mascara which then became my favourite. Max Factor mascaras are so simple and un-fancy, they do what they’re supposed to with a minimum of fuss, and this new Velvet Volume False Lash Effect Mascara* is no different. Velvet Volume is different because it’s an anti-brittle mousse formula containing natural beeswax so it doesn’t leave lashes feeling brittle and stiff. The wand has very short plastic bristles that are quite widely spaced and has been designed to catch every lash, no matter how short or fine. I’ve been using new Velvet Volume Mascara for a couple of weeks now and I really like it. It’s very black and I find it easy to coat all of my lashes using the plastic bristles. I do find however that I need to add a couple of coats in order to get the dense dramatic coverage that I like, otherwise my...

Budget eye make-up from W7

Budget eye make-up from W7

I love discovering great budget make-up products and W7 is one of my favourite brands for this. A couple of months ago I reviewed a selection of their affordable lip products, and today I’m going to be telling you about some of their eye make-up… W7 Pearl Eyes pencils* – first up are these chunky eye pencils in Park Lane and Easy Does It. Park Lane is a dark chestnut brown and Easy Does It is a reddy bronze. Both shades have a pearlised shimmer to them and smudge nicely with a cotton bud. In the swatch image below, from left to right – Park Lane, Easy Does It. Park Lane is easily my favourite and has replaced my trusty black eyeliner for a while now. I just draw on a little at the outer corners of both my upper and lower lash lines then smudge with a cotton bud for a low key look. You could also use them all over the eyelid as a shadow, they’re long...

KOREAN BEAUTY Too Cool For School – Hot Girl Lash

KOREAN BEAUTY Too Cool For School – Hot Girl Lash

I am currently taking part in an initiative working with BNT News International, a global beauty/fashion/lifestyle and entertainment source based in Seoul, South Korea. I am helping BNT to promote a selection of new and exciting Korean beauty products to a UK audience, these are products that you probably won’t have seen before and some of them are really different and unique. The first product that I want to tell you about is this Hot Girl Lash* coloured mascara from Too Cool For School. It comes in three different colours – Nuts Brown, Raspberry Pink and Royal Blue – and I have been testing out the Royal Blue shade. Coloured mascaras are no longer throwbacks from the 1980s… you may have recently seen that Benefit have launched coloured versions of their bestseller They’re Real Mascara, and this Royal Blue Hot Girl Lash is really similar. The blue shade is quite subtle and understated, not too bright, it just gives lashes a hint of colour and the hourglass brush shape...

KISS Cosmetics – Beyond Limitations Mascara

KISS Cosmetics – Beyond Limitations Mascara

You’d be forgiven if you haven’t heard of KISS Cosmetics before as they only launched a few weeks ago. They’ve been working really closely with beauty bloggers here in the UK to get their opinions and ideas on everything from developing packaging to finalising lipstick colours, I think this is a great idea as beauty bloggers are experts in this field and they’ve generally tried hundreds of different make-up products. KISS Cosmetics will be predominantly lip focused, so far the 4 products that they’ve launched are a Lip Scrub, brightly coloured KISStick lipsticks, shiny Lip Vinyl glosses and Locked Lips top coat. However on Thursday 28th May KISS Cosmetics are due to launch their next product, Beyond Limitations Mascara*, and I’ve been lucky enough to be one of the first people to try it out! Beyond Limitations is a paraben-free black mascara which aims to define and lengthen lashes. The brush is quite large and it’s flat along the bottom and curved along the top…. KISS Cosmetics call it ‘turbine shaped’...

MeMeMe Cosmetics – Eye & Brow Make-Up

MeMeMe Cosmetics – Eye & Brow Make-Up

My experience of MeMeMe Cosmetics in the past had been a bit hit and miss… I really liked the Eye Inspire Mono Eyeshadow in Mirage that I reviewed in 2013, but I wasn’t keen on their Cherub’s Blush Cheek & Lip Tint and found it messy and difficult to use. But when I was awakened by the postman on my birthday in March, I was very happy to find that MeMeMe had sent me a selection of eye and brow make-up for my birthday! A very welcome treat indeed and totally unexpected. So, what did I think? Read on to find out, there were 3 products: MeMeMe Dark & Divine Mascara* – it’s very rare that I find a mascara that I love so I didn’t have very high hopes with this one, but I’m pleased to say that it’s really great. The brush is very thin with tiny plastic ‘bristles’ and it’s so easy to get it right down into the roots of the lashes, to coat the...

Benecos – Vegan Eye Make-Up

Benecos – Vegan Eye Make-Up

Benecos is a brand that I hadn’t really heard of until a few weeks ago when I tried their Shampoo for Silky Hair. All of their products are free of parabens & silicones etc, contain 100% natural and organic ingredients and are certified vegan. I was interested to hear that as well as haircare and skincare Benecos also do make-up, I think there’s a real lack of natural and vegan make-up around, so I was eager to see what they had to offer. The Natural Eyebrow Designer* pencil and Vegan Wonder Natural Mascara* are both fairly new products from the Benecos range. Vegan Wonder Natural Mascara – I’ve only used this a few times so far and I think it’s OK. I usually like to go for thickening, curling, plumping mascaras that add volume and length and give me lots of thick black lashes, whereas this Benecos mascara gives more of a natural looking effect and if you want to build up the coverage on your lashes then you...

Lancome – Hypnose Star Mascara

Lancome – Hypnose Star Mascara

Now I have briefly reviewed this mascara before, a year ago, when I compared Lancôme Hypnose Mascara vs Hypnose Star Mascara, and I really liked it. The Christmas tree shaped brush aims to effortlessly coat the lashes and to enhance their natural curl. The thin pointy end of the brush is really great for painting those fine, short inner lashes too, ensuring you cover every part of every lash. You can see from the image below that my lashes look well coated, and the upper lashes have a lovely, natural upward curl. One of the things that I love about Lancôme Hypnose Star Mascara (well, all of the Hypnose mascara range really) is that it doesn’t smudge underneath my eyes – something that I experience with a lot of mascaras. I’ve been using the black shade which is called ‘Noir Midnight’, it’s also available in Sparkling Brown. I like the glitter effect on the bottom of the mascara tube, although it’s a bit tricky to photograph! I love Lancôme’s...

The Body Shop – Sparkling Black Mascara

The Body Shop – Sparkling Black Mascara

Another Christmassy offering from The Body Shop®, this one is Sparkling Black Mascara* – a regular black mascara with a glittery twist from The Body Shop® new Christmas collection. Sparkling Black Mascara is a black mascara with tiny flecks of silver glitter suspended in it, you can see the glittery specks on the brush in the image above. The brush is very thin with not many bristles and I find it quite difficult to gather much of the product up on it in the tube – I really have to stir the brush round the tube to pick it up. It’s therefore quite difficult to get a lot of the mascara on the lashes, I can only manage to get a really thin covering onto my eyelashes. As you can see from the image above it nicely coats each lash in a thin layer, but it really doesn’t thicken or lengthen the lashes. My eyelashes are quite fair (unless I have them tinted) so this mascara from The Body...
