MUA – ‘Flair’ Lengthening Lashes

MUA – ‘Flair’ Lengthening Lashes

I had a party to go to last weekend so I decided it was a perfect opportunity to try out these Flair Lengthening Lashes from budget make-up brand MUA. I only wear false lashes for special occasions and usually wear the 20 Half Lash lashes from Mac (review of these coming soon) but I wanted to try out these budget alternatives to see if they are good value. I like the packaging of these MUA lashes, the box is fairly durable and you can clearly see the lashes inside. A small pot of eyelash glue is also included, although you can’t see this through the clear window. These Flair lashes have been created to give your lashes extra length, they are a full lash and they consist of several long lashes with shorter more feathery lashes interspersed inbetween. They give a fairly natural look, you won’t end up looking like a pantomime dame with these! I had to trim a tiny section off the end of each band as...

MUA – Lipstick in Shade 14

MUA – Lipstick in Shade 14

This is the second MUA lipstick that I have tested (see the previous review here). MUA lipsticks are remarkable in the fact that they are fantastic value for money and cost just £1! Yes, you read that correctly, just £1. “But are they any good?” I hear you ask. Well keep reading… Shade 14 is a pale nude beige colour, it is surprisingly creamy, applies really nicely from the tube and has a lovely vanilla scent – it certainly doesn’t feel like a budget product. It is a fairly matt colour with no shimmer as you can see from the swatch image below. Makeup Academy Lipstick in Shade 14 is great given it’s price and I have been wearing it when I want to play down my lips and make a feature of my eyes. The sleek black tube wouldn’t look out of place in a cosmetic purse filled with Chanel and Mac products either. I have said before that it would be nice if MUA gave their lipstick colours a name rather...

Silver Bow Nail Art Tutorial

Silver Bow Nail Art Tutorial

Here is my simple step-by-step guide to creating this pretty Silver Bow Nail Art. Here is the kit that you will need: A pale coloured nail polish – I used MUA Nail Polish in Natural Days A black coloured striping nail polish – I used Orly Instant Artist Colour in Jet Black A clear top coat nail polish – I used Chanel Extreme Shine Nail Lacquer A pack of silver bow nail stickers First, paint all of your nails with the pale coloured polish and allow the nails to dry thoroughly. Once the polish on your nails is completely dry create a stripe over the end of each nail using the striping nail polish (this takes a very steady hand) and leave to dry. The Orly Instant Artist striping polish that I used is water based, so you can wash the stripes away if you don’t get them quite right first time…. but don’t get your hands wet while your perfect stripes are drying or they will just wash off! I think this...

MUA – Sheer Finish Lipgloss in ‘Some Me Time’

MUA – Sheer Finish Lipgloss in ‘Some Me Time’

My obsession with Superdrug budget beauty brand MUA continues…. this time I have been testing their Sheer Finish Lipgloss in ‘Some Me Time’ which is a lovely natural mid-pink colour. MUA Sheer Finish Lipgloss is a budget rival to Lancôme Juicy Tubes and other similar glosses. The little tubes fit nicely in a pocket or handbag and I love to use lipgloss for a sheer Summer make-up look. The MUA Sheer Finish Lipgloss squirts straight out of the end of the tube onto the lips, and you can then use the flattened nozzle to spread the lipgloss across your lips. This one has a lovely strawberry taste and is really glossy. ‘Some Me Time’ is a lovely natural pink with a little bit of shimmer, you can clearly see the colour on the swatch image below. What’s more, it’s not too runny either and it stays put, not bleeding over the lip line. When I apply lipgloss I like to just apply a really thin coat, as I don’t like the...

MUA – Gel Eyeliner in Tribe

MUA – Gel Eyeliner in Tribe

This MUA Gel Eyeliner in Tribe is the first item I have tried from my new MUA Makeup Academy haul and it didn’t disappoint. This is one of MUA’s more expensive make-up items at the still-bargainous price of £3! This gel eyeliner is a great product, with a cute applicator brush hidden inside the lid – you just unscrew the lid from the bottom gel pot and then pull the top half of the lid off to reveal the brush. The bottom pot contains the actual gel eyeliner product, although I wouldn’t really describe it as a ‘gel’, it has the consistency of a very thick paste. When I first saw the applicator brush I was a bit worried that it might be a bit thick to get a nice fine line, but it wasn’t a problem. The gel eyeliner is easy to apply, but you do need to get plenty on the brush and it dries very quickly. You can see from the swatch image below that Tribe is a bright turquoisey...

MUA Makeup Academy Haul

MUA Makeup Academy Haul

I was so impressed with the quality of Superdrug’s MUA Makeup Academy range that I placed a rather large online order, and it has just arrived! But I’m starting to think that I overdid it…. I did benefit from a 3 for 2 offer though, and the whole lot cost less than a Chanel eyeshadow palette… am I just trying to justify my purchase to myself?! You can read my previous reviews of MUA Lipstick in Shade 5 and MUA Blusher in Shade 1. From left to right, back to front… Lipsticks in Shade 9, Shade 4, Shade 6, Shade 14. Power Pout Lip Crayons in Rendezvous and Irreplaceable. Sheer Finish Lip Glosses in Too Much Fun, Let’s Meet and Some Me Time. I was hoping that MUA would eventually give their lipsticks proper names, to replace ‘Shade 1, Shade 2’ etc, and the nude Shade 14 lipstick also has the name ‘Bare’ on the label… are MUA finally giving their lipsticks names? From left to right… Gel Eyeliner in Tribe,...

MUA Blusher – Shade 1

MUA Blusher – Shade 1

You may have read my recent glowing review of MUA Lipstick in ‘Shade 5′, whereby I was pleasantly surprised how great a lipstick costing just £1 can be. Prior to this I had always been a bit of a beauty snob and thought that you get what you pay for, but evidently this isn’t true any more with more and more great budget beauty brands being launched. So it is time for a review of another MUA (Makeup Academy) product, this time it is their blusher in Shade 1 which also costs just £1. MUA Blusher in Shade 1 is a pinky peach coloured pressed powder blusher with just a hint of golden shimmer in a small rectangular compact. I don’t normally go for peach or orange based blushers, usually sticking to more bluey-pinks, but I thought it would be worth trying this out for the Summer months to wear when I have a tan (yes, I know I’m being rather hopeful!). I applied the blusher to my cheekbones using a small blusher brush – as...

The hunt for the perfect pink lipstick #2

The hunt for the perfect pink lipstick #2

I am on the hunt… the hunt for the perfect pink lipstick that is ‘MLBB’ or ‘my lips but better’. You know, the sort of colour that looks from a distance like you’re not wearing lipstick, like you just have naturally pink, plump perfect lips. The sort of colour you can just slick on from the tube and doesn’t need painstaking application with liner and lipbrush. The sort of colour that looks like ‘my lips, but better’. This is the second lipstick that I have tested during my hunt, MUA Makeup Academy Lipstick in ‘Shade 5’.  This is a very pale shimmery pink colour, remarkable in the fact that it costs £1…. yes, you read that correctly, it costs just £1! I didn’t have very high hopes for this lipstick given it’s low price but I was very pleasantly surprised. Shade 5 is surprisingly creamy, applies really nicely from the tube and has a lovely vanilla scent – it certainly doesn’t feel like a budget product. It does have a lot...
