Is this the best budget highlighter ever?

Is this the best budget highlighter ever?

Highlighters have been my favourite product of 2016, and if there’s one product that I’ve wanted to try over all the rest it’s Vivid Baked Highlighter from Makeup Revolution. Makeup Revolution is the budget beauty brand that really made a splash when it was introduced a couple of years ago, and I’ve read so many amazing reviews of their pressed powder highlighter that costs just £3 that I couldn’t resist trying it. This is a real beauty bloggers favourite product, I haven’t met anyone that hasn’t liked it! There are 4 shades in the Vivid Baked Highlighter range, I opted for Golden Lights. It’s a multi-use baked highlighting powder in white lustre with a golden shimmer. Of course you can use it to light up the cheekbones, but it’s also great for using as an eyeshadow (just smudge a tad under the brow arch using the ring finger), highlighting collarbones or shoulders in Summer, dusting over the décolleté area or using sparingly for contouring to highlight temples, cheekbones, the tip...

The Balm – Mary-Lou Manizer

The Balm – Mary-Lou Manizer

I have a bit of an addiction to highlighting powders and I’m currently searching for the perfect one. I want something really pale and shimmery, that’s buttery soft and easy to blend, with no pink or bronze tones to it. Several other beauty bloggers had recommended The Balm’s Mary-Lou Manizer to me so I thought it was about time I tried it. If you’ve never heard of The Balm it’s a cult US brand of make-up that doesn’t take itself too seriously. All the products have quirky tongue-in-cheek names and are decorated with cool pop-art style portraits – think the US version of Soap & Glory! Mary-Lou Manizer is a luminizing pressed powder with a gentle honey hue as you can see from the swatch image below. It gently diffuses light giving your skin a soft, subtle glow. It’s one of the paler highlighting powders that I’ve tried which I like. The packaging is quirky and depicts a mugshot of Mary-Lou who has been arrested for being too pretty and too...

More dupes from W7 – Hollywood Bronze & Glow and Banana Dreams

More dupes from W7 – Hollywood Bronze & Glow and Banana Dreams

Did you see my review three weeks ago about a selection of budget lip products from W7? Well today I’m back with another W7 review, this time it’s a duo of face powders. I love W7 make-up, they have some great cheap dupes for more well-known premium products and I think it’s a shame that it’s not a more popular brand. I think it’s probably because W7 is not readily available on the high street and you sometimes have to search around on the internet for it, but there are always loads of W7 products available cheap on Amazon. Banana Dreams Loose Powder – this is a new loose powder with a yellow tint to it, it aims to correct surface redness and pink undertones, as well as neutralise blue under eye circles. I often get quite rosy pink cheeks so I’ve found that this powder works really well for me, although if you already have a yellow-toned or olive skin then you’d want to go for something with more...

Stila – All Over Shimmer Duo in Kitten

Stila – All Over Shimmer Duo in Kitten

I’d been looking for a good shimmery highlighter powder for ages, so when I saw this All Over Shimmer Duo in Kitten from Stila I was smitten (plus I managed to get 20% OFF it from M&S on Bank Holiday weekend)! I love Stila as a make-up brand, their products are always good quality (if a little pricey) and their packaging is simple, pretty and sturdy all at the same time. This little pocket-sized compact is no exception, the pearlised lid has cute little embossed stars on it. All Over Shimmer Powder is marketed as a multi-use make-up item, it can be used as eyeshadow, cheek colour or highlighter – I love anything that can multi-task! Plus the mirror inside the lid means you can use it on-the-go. The two shades in the compact complement each other nicely – the paler shade is a champagne cream and has just the right amount of shimmer, the darker shade is a gentle bronze. Both of the powders are micro-fine and apply smoothly...

The budget W7 Bronzer/Blusher/Highlighter palette you can’t live without!

The budget W7 Bronzer/Blusher/Highlighter palette you can’t live without!

I really love discovering new products from budget beauty brand W7, they’re so affordable and yet they so often produce amazing dupes for cult beauty items from other brands. You might have seen my review of W7 Night Glow liquid highlighter a couple of weeks ago which is a complete dupe for Benefit High Beam. I spotted the Cheeky Trio palette on Amazon it’s a pressed powder palette containing a bronzer, blusher and highlighter and it reminds me a bit of Sleek Face Form Contour Palettes (but this W7 option is much cheaper at under a fiver!) I’ve been looking for a good highlighting powder for ages so I thought I’d give it a go… The three powder shades are called Dream Machine (bronzer), 5th Avenue (blusher) and Hot Stuff (highlighter). The surfaces of the powders are rippled which look quite effective in the palette but I did find it made it a little bit difficult to swish your brush over them evenly! The image above shows swatches of the three...

The W7 dupe for Benefit High Beam that’s under £3

The W7 dupe for Benefit High Beam that’s under £3

I really love discovering new products from budget beauty brand W7, they’re so affordable and yet they so often produce amazing dupes for cult beauty items from other brands. They’re really affordable too and they have a mahoosive range of products. Sadly W7 products are not often available in high street shops and it’s easy to miss out; the answer is to have the occasional trawl through Amazon to see what’s on offer from W7! Night Glow is a liquid illuminating highlighter that comes in a small bottle that looks a bit like a nail varnish bottle. You can use it to highlight certain areas of the face, like the cheekbones, or you can mix a drop in with your liquid foundation to give your skin an all over glow. I like to use it to accentuate and highlight my cheekbones, I paint a few drops onto my fingers then dab and stipple the shimmery liquid all over the cheekbone area being careful not to rub or drag the skin as this can...

W7 – The Honey Queen Honeycomb Blusher

W7 – The Honey Queen Honeycomb Blusher

I first saw The Honey Queen Honeycomb Blusher online last Summer and I was lucky enough to receive it for Christmas after dropping some hints! It reminded me of Benefit’s Sugarbomb face powder – one of my favourite blushers – right down to the little square cardboard box and brush, and I wanted to see how it matched up. This product is called a blusher on the packaging, but on W7’s website they call it a bronzer! Confused! It’s actually like a cross between the two, the honeycomb pressed powder is a mixture of pink, peach and bronze tones, and merged all together they give a very light shimmery peachy shade. I’ve been using a Bobbi Brown Face Blender Brush to apply The Honey Queen, as I find that the little square brush that comes with it leaves a bit of a stripy effect on the cheeks. In the close-up image above you can clearly see the pale golden shimmer that runs across the feint lines of the surface....

I ♡ Makeup – Goddess Of Love

I ♡ Makeup – Goddess Of Love

If you’ve not heard of I ♡ Makeup before it’s the little sister of budget brand Makeup Revolution, and it’s just as reasonably priced. Just before Christmas I reviewed their heart-shaped I ♡ My Lips Lipstick in Rising Pulse which I really loved, so I decided it was about time I tried another of their heart-shaped offerings. This is Goddess Of Love Triple Baked Highlighter and I’ve wanted it ever since I first saw it online, I love the fact that it’s heart-shaped! To be honest there’s not too much to say about it… other than I love it! It’s a hard-baked powder highlighter, really pale and shimmery. It gives the skin a really lovely glow and it blends nicely. You do need to be careful you don’t apply too much at once otherwise you could end up looking a bit shiny – it’s always easier to add more of a product than to remove some! I’ve been using my Bobbi Brown Face Blender brush to apply Goddess Of...
