Introducing JK Mineral Make-Up

Introducing JK Mineral Make-Up

I adore mineral make-up. I like knowing that my make-up doesn’t contain lots of nasty chemicals, I like the feel of it on my skin, I like that it doesn’t clog my pores. So when I heard about a new brand of mineral make-up I was very much looking forward to trying it out. If you haven’t heard of mineral make-up before it’s made up of natural minerals such as zinc, talc and iron oxides, elements that occur naturally within the world. These minerals are ground down into tiny particles to create powder make-up, and they don’t require any nasty preservatives, perfumes or dyes. Mineral make-up is very quickly growing in popularity and it’s thought to be very good for acne and sensitive skin as it doesn’t clog the pores like regular make-up can. JK Mineral Makeup is a new make-up range developed in the UK by Jody Knight, an elite permanent make-up artist. Jody uses permanent cosmetic treatments such as medical tattooing to help mask scars and create new...

KOREAN BEAUTY Chosungah 22 – Bounce Up Pact Ultra

KOREAN BEAUTY Chosungah 22 – Bounce Up Pact Ultra

I am currently taking part in an initiative working with BNT News International, a global beauty/fashion/lifestyle and entertainment source based in Seoul, South Korea. I am helping BNT to promote a selection of new and exciting Korean beauty products to a UK audience, these are products that you probably won’t have seen before and some of them are really different and unique. You may have already seen some of my previous Korean beauty reviews, such as this post about 3CE Duo Cover Crayon. This is the Bounce Up Pact Ultra* from Chosungah 22 which is a Korean brand I’d never heard of before I was sent this product to try out. Chosungah is the name of the first professional make-up artist in Korea and her brand of make-up offers products ‘with a twist, allowing women all over the world to enjoy make-up as a form of play’. This is basically a thick powder foundation product but it gets its name from the fact that it’s made of a mixture of oil...

An instant Instagram filter for your face?

An instant Instagram filter for your face?

New Magic Minerals* minerals powder by Jerome Alexander has been dubbed an ‘instant Instagram filter for the face’. It’s a pressed powder that acts as a foundation, concealer and colour corrector all in one, and I was interested to see if it really lived up to the claims as I really like using a powder foundation and this sounded like something that I hadn’t come across before. A natural mineral make-up with SPF, the pressed powder contains four different coloured powder ‘blobs’ within it, each shade intended to cover or hide a different issue, for example the Mint green shade aims to tone down red complexions. Magic Minerals powder comes in a dark grey mirror compact with a soft stubby brush for applying the powder and a blending sponge. I would say that the packaging isn’t particularly attractive but the cardboard holder does explain the product in detail, including the benefits and the ingredients. I found it quite difficult to get the products out of the packaging though, they’re sealed...

Does Vichy Dermablend cover all flaws?

Does Vichy Dermablend cover all flaws?

As a beauty blogger one of the things that I get asked most is ‘can you recommend a good foundation?’. Women want lots of benefits from a foundation, but the main requirement is that it evens out the skin tone and covers any marks or blemishes. Some people are lucky enough to have fairly clear skin, and can make do with a tinted moisturiser or light foundation, whereas others have blemishes, acne, birthmarks, scars and other marks that need more coverage. Vichy Dermablend is a range of base make-up developed to cover all complexion flaws. I have been testing out the Fluid Corrective Foundation 16hr* and the Corrective Stick 14hr*, both in the palest Opal shade to see if they live up to Vichy’s claims. I have combination skin that is prone to a lot of blemishes, plus I have a few pale acne scars and uneven skintone on my cheeks from when I was a teenager, and some darker pigmentation marks around my eyes. None of these issues...

W7 – Captain Matte Foundation in Rich Tan

W7 – Captain Matte Foundation in Rich Tan

Regular readers of Beauty Best Friend may remember that I reviewed Captain Matte Foundation from budget make-up brand W7 last Summer. I really liked the coverage and the texture but the True Beige shade was far too dark for my pale skin and I’ve been tracking down a paler shade ever since. I finally managed to find a shop in York that stocks Captain Matte so that I could try out the testers and work out which was the palest shade, and ironically it’s a shade called Rich Tan! I’ve swatched it in the image below and not blended it so you can see the shade, it’s not a porcelain shade but it is quite pale with a very light tan. Captain Matte Foundation gives a perfect velvety matte finish and covers blemishes and uneven skintone without being too thick – if you have fairly clear skin you don’t really need to use a concealer with this foundation. I’ve been applying it using my fingers but it applies just as...

W7 – Captain Matte Foundation & The Fixer Face Spray

W7 – Captain Matte Foundation & The Fixer Face Spray

I’ve got another review of products from budget beauty specialists W7 for you today, it’s Captain Matte Foundation* and The Fixer Face Spray*. W7 was created in 2002 and now boasts over 500 products, unfortunately they’re not very often readily available on the high street and you may sometimes need to resort to Ebay or Amazon to track them down. I recently created a Neon Chevron French Mani look for Summer using two of W7’s nail polishes, and I was quite impressed with the products. Captain Matte Foundation – despite the cheesy name this is a rather good matte finish foundation. I was sent the True Beige shade which is far too dark for my pale skin, but in the interests of beauty blogging I did try it out and I loved it! It gives a perfect velvety matte finish and covers blemishes and uneven skintone without being too thick. I applied it using my Bobbi Brown Foundation Brush but I think it would also apply well using a...

UK Launch of Essence Make-Up

UK Launch of Essence Make-Up

Essence make-up has been around overseas since 2002 but has only recently been launched in the UK. Unfortunately I was unable to make it to their launch party but I was kindly sent a selection of Essence make-up to try. My first impressions of Essence is good, the products and packaging remind me a bit of Rimmel London and I feel they are aimed at girls aged 12-18 although they would suit anyone looking for make-up on a budget. I will be reviewing 3 Essence make-up products today, and I have another couple of items (including a glitter nail varnish) that I will be reviewing over the coming weeks. The first product that I tried was Essence Pureskin Anti-Spot Moisturizing Make-Up*, a light foundation designed to help fight spots and blackheads which contains Clearderm Complex that fights spots and also zinc and bisabolol which help speed up the healing process. The product is fairly light, a bit like a cross between a foundation and a tinted moisturiser and it...

Clarins – HydraQuench Tinted Moisturizer

Clarins – HydraQuench Tinted Moisturizer

Today I am reviewing a new Clarins product, HydraQuench Tinted Moisturizer*. I have combination skin with an oily nose and chin, but dry cheeks and forehead and I regularly use Clarins HydraQuench Lotion SPF15 as it suits my skin perfectly – you can read my review of that here. So when I was asked if I would like to try this Tinted Moisturizer from the HydraQuench family I didn’t need to think twice about it. I have been using the Sand shade which is the second lightest shade, a pale tan with a pinky undertone. It would be too dark for my pale skin in the Winter, but with a light tan in the Spring and Summer it is a good match. There are  7 shades available which range from Porcelain to Bronze. The ingredients include hyaluronic acid and Katafray bark extract which ‘help to restore the skin’s radiance and promote a natural looking healthy-glow’. I find this HydraQuench Tinted Moisturizer very easy to apply, I have been applying...
