Max Factor – Velvet Volume False Lash Effect Mascara

Max Factor – Velvet Volume False Lash Effect Mascara

Max Factor is one of my go-to brands for mascara, for years I wore their 2000 Calorie Mascara before discovering False Lash Effect Mascara which then became my favourite. Max Factor mascaras are so simple and un-fancy, they do what they’re supposed to with a minimum of fuss, and this new Velvet Volume False Lash Effect Mascara* is no different. Velvet Volume is different because it’s an anti-brittle mousse formula containing natural beeswax so it doesn’t leave lashes feeling brittle and stiff. The wand has very short plastic bristles that are quite widely spaced and has been designed to catch every lash, no matter how short or fine. I’ve been using new Velvet Volume Mascara for a couple of weeks now and I really like it. It’s very black and I find it easy to coat all of my lashes using the plastic bristles. I do find however that I need to add a couple of coats in order to get the dense dramatic coverage that I like, otherwise my...

KISS – Gel Fantasy Nails

KISS – Gel Fantasy Nails

It was my birthday yesterday and to celebrate I thought I’d try out these Gel Fantasy* false nails from KISS. It’s ages since I’ve had nails this long, and whilst it does feel very glamorous I’d forgotten how difficult it is to do everyday tasks like type on a keyboard and open cans! Gel Fantasy are ready to wear stick-on false nails with a shiny gel-like finish. I am wearing the ‘Freshen Up’ style, a glossy black with tiny flecks of holographic glitter and large hexagons of silver glitter. The nails themselves are very long, thick plastic with a shiny clear coating, and whilst I’m not totally convinced they look like gel nails they do look very good. The pack contains 24 nails in varying sizes, a file, a wooden stick, both glue and adhesive pads and full instructions. I like the fact that you can choose how you want to apply the nails – either using traditional nail glue or the pads – I went for the glue...

Ted Baker – Faked To Perfection Nails

Ted Baker – Faked To Perfection Nails

If you’re a fan of false nails then you’ll be pleased to know that Ted Baker have recently brought out a new range of ‘Faked To Perfection’ artificial nails, I was lucky enough to be sent the Rose Gold* set to try out. They come in the same cute sweet shop packaging as the Sweet On You Nail Duo that I reviewed last year. The pack contains 24 artificial nails, a small tube of nail glue and a weird white plastic applicator stick. (I didn’t find that the applicator stick was much help, it didn’t hold the nails very well and made it impossible to press the nails firmly onto the nail bed, it was much easier to apply the nails using my fingers). The set comes in a clear box which is really handy to keep the spares and the glue in after you’ve applied the nails. The Rose Gold set are a pretty pale pink colour with a shiny metallic rose gold tip, really beautiful and rose...

MAC – Lash 20 & Duo Adhesive Review

MAC – Lash 20 & Duo Adhesive Review

These are my favourite false lashes and they’re Lash 20 from MAC. I’ve been wearing these for a few years now (well, not this actual same pair!) whenever I have a special event to go to – usually weddings, parties and Christmas. Lash 20 is a bit different from your usual falsies as they’re only a half lash really, designed to wear on the outside half of your lashline. This makes them a bit easier to apply as there’s not as much of them to position, and they give a beautiful black sweeping lash effect – but they don’t look too artificial. As with all of MAC’s false lashes, Lash 20 come packaged on a white plastic tray, in a little clear perspex sleeve which keeps the lashes safe and protected when you’re not wearing them. They don’t come with any lash glue, so I use MAC Duo Lash Adhesive which you have to buy separately. It’s not cheap, but it’s quite a big 14g tube and lasts for...

Broadway Nails – imPRESS Press-On Manicure

Broadway Nails – imPRESS Press-On Manicure

My experiences with false nails in the past have not been good ones – I hate the state they leave my nails in after you’ve pulled them off, the glue is just too strong and harsh on the nails in my opinion. So when I was asked to try an imPRESS Press-On Manicure* from Broadway Nails I wasn’t too sure what to expect. imPRESS is a new range of false nails, created to look like a gel manicure and quick and easy to apply using the sticky tabs that are already on the back of each nail. There’s no nail glue required and you don’t need to cure them or wait for polish to dry – just apply them and you’re ready to go. Sound too good to be true? I was sent two pairs of imPRESS Press-On Manicure nails to try – the mottled blue nail art effect ones are called ‘Dancing Queen’ and the crimson ones are called ‘Call My Agent’. I decided to try out Call...

Let’s Go Lashes – Strip Lashes in Tease 1

Let’s Go Lashes – Strip Lashes in Tease 1

I’m not someone who wears false lashes every day, but I do like them for a special occasion such as a wedding, birthday or big night out. I was lucky enough to be sent these Let’s Go Lashes in Tease 1 to try out, so I saved them for last Saturday night when we went out for my husband’s birthday meal with my family. Let’s Go Lashes, from Nouveau Lashes, are super-fast strip lashes available in a huge range of thickness, lengths and colour. There are 40 designs in all, split into four ranges – Flirt, Tease, Temptress and Heartbreaker – so there’s something to suit everyone. I have been using number 1 lashes from the Tease range – full length and full bodied, these aren’t for the faint hearted! Each set of Let’s Go Lashes comes with a tiny tube of latex eyelash glue so you don’t need any special equipment to apply them, it’s all in the box. I find the best way to apply lashes is...

Eylure – Pre-Glued Lashes

Eylure – Pre-Glued Lashes

I am an occasional wearer of false lashes, restricting their use to special occasions, parties, etc. These latex-free Pre-Glued Lashes from Eylure came in my September Glossybox and I was interested to read that these are supposed to be very quick and easy to apply as they are already pre-glued so you don’t need to faff around applying your own glue and waiting for them to stick. These are the limited edition ‘Style 190’ Pre-Glued Lashes, a lash with fine sections in a short length for root volume and dark tipped sections for length. Firstly, when I took them out of the packet and unstuck them from the white plastic plate I found that they were VERY sticky and quite floppy. I am used to wearing false lashes with more of a rigid band, and these reminded me of little centipedes wriggling everywhere. I needed to trim them slightly as they were a bit too long for my lashline, and I managed to get them stuck to the scissors...

Max Factor – False Lash Effect Mascara

Max Factor – False Lash Effect Mascara

Max Factor False Lash Effect Mascara is the mascara that I use every day, and I have been doing so for a good few years. I’ve tried other mascaras but nothing seems to quite live up to this one for me, plus it has won several awards including the Style Magazine 2009 Beauty Awards ‘Best Mascara’ award. False Lash Effect Mascara is available in 2 colours – black and black/brown – I wear the black one and I find the result on my lashes is nice and black with a good coverage. Max Factor say this mascara ‘doubles lash size appearance vs bare lashes’ and it certainly does with mine, although my lashes are quite fair particularly if they haven’t recently been tinted so mascara is a must for me. The brush is nice and thick with tiny little plastic bristles. It did take me a while to get used to this brush when I first started using False Lash Effect Mascara but now I love it, it’s really...
