Christmas treats from Roger & Gallet

Christmas treats from Roger & Gallet

Well, it’s December so we’re officially allowed to think about Christmas! And when we think about Christmas we have to talk about one of the brands that does gifts so well – Roger & Gallet. I’ve reviewed several of their products in the past, in particular their fragrances and hand creams, and they all make perfect gifts as their packaging is so beautiful. Today I’m reviewing two items from the Bois d’Orange fragrance collection: Bois d’Orange Eau Fraiche Parfumee* – I’d expected this Fragrant Water to smell really fruity and orangey but it doesn’t. The scent is supposed to encompass the leaves, flowers and wood of the orange tree as well as the fruit, so it’s more woody and musky than just an orange fragrance. I think it smells quite classic and traditional. The scent is quite light as this is a fragrant water rather than a perfume, and it’s unisex so suitable for both men and women. The smooth glass bottle with its yellow and gold label doesn’t...

Perfume Of The Day – Roger & Gallet Fleur de Figuier Eau de Parfum

Perfume Of The Day – Roger & Gallet Fleur de Figuier Eau de Parfum

You may have guessed by now that I’m a bit obsessed with the Fleur de Figuier fragrance from French brand Roger & Gallet, this is the fourth product in the range that I’ve reviewed now! I first fell in love with the fruity scent last year when I tried out the Huile Gourmande (it was one of my favourite products of 2014) and now I’m using the Eau de Parfum*. The Fleur de Figuier range encompasses both the fruit and the flower of the fig, plus mandarin flowers. It’s quite fruity and reminds me a bit of The Body Shop’s 1980s favourite fragrance Dewberry, I could just sit and sniff it all day! Being an Eau de Parfum this product is much stronger than the Eau Fraiche that I reviewed a few weeks ago, as this one contains more alcohol. The Eau de Parfum also smells slightly more floral and less fruity than the other products in the range. The angular glass bottle looks a bit more old fashioned than...

Perfume Of The Day – L’Occitane Cerisier Rouge

Perfume Of The Day – L’Occitane Cerisier Rouge

I got this L’Occitane Cerisier Rouge Eau Intense for Christmas and I’m so in love with it! I first spritzed it in their York shop in December, and then dropped enough hints to my husband that he bought me it. Cerisier Rouge translates as ‘Red Cherry’ and it’s a beautiful sweet fragrance – as well as the scent of cherry it’s got hints of lemon, orange, blackcurrant, raspberry and Lily Of The Valley. It’s not too fruity though, the floral edge really does come through, and it is supposed to replicate the ‘changing beauty of cherry blossom announcing the arrival of Summer days’. It’s my absolute favourite scent at the moment, I wear it every day. It’s so uplifting and fresh – probably more of a Spring/Summer scent than an Autumn/Winter one. It lasts all day, after a few hours the top notes start to disappear and it reduces down to a warming, fruity fragrance. I was also lucky enough to receive a great free gift with my perfume. L’Occitane...

La Roche-Posay – Thermal Spring Water

La Roche-Posay – Thermal Spring Water

I was going to publish this post next week, but given the amazingly hot, sunny weather we’ve been having over the last few days I thought I’d better bring it forward and tell you about it now, as this Thermal Spring Water from La Roche-Posay has been a godsend this week. Thermal Spring Water is just basically water in a spray can…. but it’s natural spring water which is rich in selenium and other minerals that are beneficial for the skin, and as it’s just water it’s suitable for all skin types, even very sensitive skin. I’ve been keeping mine in the fridge then using it on my face and wrists when I feel like I’m overheating. It gives a nice spritz that evenly coats the skin in a fine mist of water, and it’s so lovely and chilled that it cools me right down. You could also use it in place of a toner after cleansing your face – La Roche-Posay recommend spraying it onto your face then...

Perfume of the day – Lancome Tresor Eau de Parfum

Perfume of the day – Lancome Tresor Eau de Parfum

This little mini Tresor Eau de Parfum came in my Selfridges Beauty Advent Calendar and I just think the little bottle looks so cute! The bottle has been designed to look like a precious treasure, and ‘Tresor’ actually means ‘treasure’ in French. The fragrance is both floral and fruity, with a sort of sweet powdery note to it. Lancome say, ‘Its luminous fragrance gives a refined and radiant aura to the woman who wears it.’ Tresor is actually a bit too sweet for me, I prefer more mysterious fragrances like Thierry Mugler’s Alien, but the little bottle does look so sweet sat on my dressing table! I might have to give it away though to someone who will love the fragrance. Prices for Lancome Tresor start from £39.50 at The Perfume Shop, for a 30ml Eau de Parfum gift set. I will be reviewing some more of the dinky products that have come out of my Selfridges Advent Calendar soon. If you enjoyed reading this blog post why not...

Perfume of the Day – The Body Shop White Musk Smoky Rose Eau de Toilette

Perfume of the Day – The Body Shop White Musk Smoky Rose Eau de Toilette

Who remembers the 1990s classic fragrance from The Body Shop, White Musk? I think everyone had a bottle of it at some point! I was never really a fan of White Musk fragrance back then (I was more of a Dewberry girl!) but it was certainly popular, and The Body Shop have recently updated their classic fragrance and created White Musk Smoky Rose. It’s a modern twist on the old favourite, containing notes of cruelty-free musk (synthetically produced I am guessing), black smoky rose and tobacco flower. I have been wearing White Musk Smoky Rose Eau de Toilette* for a few days now and I am really loving it. It’s much more of a deep, mysterious fragrance than the old White Musk. The initial scent I get when I spritz on the perfume is a warm sensuous floral fragrance with a smoky undertone, then when that wears off I am left with the sweet scent of liquorice. I love the bottle of this White Musk Smoky Rose Eau de...

Perfume of the day – Elizabeth Arden Untold Eau de Parfum

Perfume of the day – Elizabeth Arden Untold Eau de Parfum

I got this miniature bottle of Elizabeth Arden’s Untold Eau de Parfum in my September Glossybox. Although it’s only a small sample I love the fact that it’s in a proper little glass bottle that was nestled inside a pretty box, not in one of those little glass phials. The design of the bottle is really pretty too, it really catches the light and would look nice on any dressing table. Elizabeth Arden describe Untold as ‘a luxurious and modern rendition of a sensuous floral composition’, for ‘the multi-faceted modern woman’. I would describe Untold as warm and gentle, it is floral without being too sweet and has a bit of mystery about it. Untold is probably not a fragrance I would have rushed out and bought if I had smelled it on someone else, but I do really like it and I will definitely be wearing it this Autumn. A full size bottle of Untold Eau de Parfum from Elizabeth Arden starts at £35 for 30ml, available from...

Perfume of the day – Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb Eau de Parfum

Perfume of the day – Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb Eau de Parfum

I went shopping in York last week and treated myself to Flowerbomb by Viktor & Rolf. It’s the perfume that I always spritz at the duty-free shop in the airport when I am going away, so the scent reminds me of excitement, anticipation…. and aeroplanes. Viktor & Rolf describe this opulent fragrance, ‘… a moodlifting, positive profusion of flowers… escapism, in a bottle…’ It is a floral perfume, centered mainly around the scents of freesia, Centifolia rose and jasmine, but has a subtle backdrop of patchouli which is why I think I like it as I don’t usually go for floral fragrances. It reminds me a bit of Thierry Mugler’s Alien perfume which I wear a lot (read my review of that here) so if you love Alien then you’ll love Flowerbomb too. I love the bottle too, it looks like a multi-faceted diamond, and the pretty pink box sets it all off nicely. Prices start at £49 for a 30ml bottle of Flowerbomb, from Debenhams. Or keep an...
