Sweet treats from Patisserie De Bain

Sweet treats from Patisserie De Bain

How tempting does this selection of sweet treats from Patisserie de Bain look!? Patisserie de Bain (translated from French as ‘confectionery for the bath’) is a new brand from Rose & Co – a traditional British apothecary in the Yorkshire village of Haworth. Each piece is lovingly handmade in the UK from ingredients such as shea butter and almond oil and finished off with traditional English floral fragrances. I was lucky enough to receive this hamper full of pretty Patisserie de Bain bath goodies* to try out, plus a selection of scented handcreams which I’ll talk about later in the post. The first thing to strike me was the packaging, the pale pastel colours and doily decorations really make the products look like something you’d find in a sweet shop. Plus the products themselves look good enough to eat! Particularly this Cranberries & Cream Cupcake Soap, I think it looks like a real cake and with a warm berry fragrance it’s perfect for Winter. Actually this might be too pretty to...

Perfume Of The Day – Roger & Gallet Fleur de Figuier Eau de Parfum

Perfume Of The Day – Roger & Gallet Fleur de Figuier Eau de Parfum

You may have guessed by now that I’m a bit obsessed with the Fleur de Figuier fragrance from French brand Roger & Gallet, this is the fourth product in the range that I’ve reviewed now! I first fell in love with the fruity scent last year when I tried out the Huile Gourmande (it was one of my favourite products of 2014) and now I’m using the Eau de Parfum*. The Fleur de Figuier range encompasses both the fruit and the flower of the fig, plus mandarin flowers. It’s quite fruity and reminds me a bit of The Body Shop’s 1980s favourite fragrance Dewberry, I could just sit and sniff it all day! Being an Eau de Parfum this product is much stronger than the Eau Fraiche that I reviewed a few weeks ago, as this one contains more alcohol. The Eau de Parfum also smells slightly more floral and less fruity than the other products in the range. The angular glass bottle looks a bit more old fashioned than...

Kiehls – Ultra Facial Cream & Creme de Corps Review

Kiehls – Ultra Facial Cream & Creme de Corps Review

I received these little beauties from Kiehl’s in my Selfridges beauty advent calendar. Kiehl’s is a good traditional brand, founded as an old-world apothecary in New York’s East Village over 150 years ago. I love their packaging – it’s very simple with no frills and the ingredients are clearly displayed on each item. I have been using the Ultra Facial Cream moisturiser at night before I go to bed. It’s a very simple, white cream with not much scent, the consistency is not too thick and not too thin. You only need a small amount and it nicely moisturises the skin without leaving it feeling sticky or oily. Plus my skin doesn’t feel dry in the morning when I wake up. Kiehl’s claim that Ultra Facial Cream moisturises skin for up to 24 hours – I’ve not tried out this claim, but in my opinion it definitely moisturises the skin well. Creme de Corps is a light moisturising body cream, I had expected the consistency to be a bit...

Perfume of the day – Lancome Tresor Eau de Parfum

Perfume of the day – Lancome Tresor Eau de Parfum

This little mini Tresor Eau de Parfum came in my Selfridges Beauty Advent Calendar and I just think the little bottle looks so cute! The bottle has been designed to look like a precious treasure, and ‘Tresor’ actually means ‘treasure’ in French. The fragrance is both floral and fruity, with a sort of sweet powdery note to it. Lancome say, ‘Its luminous fragrance gives a refined and radiant aura to the woman who wears it.’ Tresor is actually a bit too sweet for me, I prefer more mysterious fragrances like Thierry Mugler’s Alien, but the little bottle does look so sweet sat on my dressing table! I might have to give it away though to someone who will love the fragrance. Prices for Lancome Tresor start from £39.50 at The Perfume Shop, for a 30ml Eau de Parfum gift set. I will be reviewing some more of the dinky products that have come out of my Selfridges Advent Calendar soon. If you enjoyed reading this blog post why not...

Perfume of the Day – The Body Shop White Musk Smoky Rose Eau de Toilette

Perfume of the Day – The Body Shop White Musk Smoky Rose Eau de Toilette

Who remembers the 1990s classic fragrance from The Body Shop, White Musk? I think everyone had a bottle of it at some point! I was never really a fan of White Musk fragrance back then (I was more of a Dewberry girl!) but it was certainly popular, and The Body Shop have recently updated their classic fragrance and created White Musk Smoky Rose. It’s a modern twist on the old favourite, containing notes of cruelty-free musk (synthetically produced I am guessing), black smoky rose and tobacco flower. I have been wearing White Musk Smoky Rose Eau de Toilette* for a few days now and I am really loving it. It’s much more of a deep, mysterious fragrance than the old White Musk. The initial scent I get when I spritz on the perfume is a warm sensuous floral fragrance with a smoky undertone, then when that wears off I am left with the sweet scent of liquorice. I love the bottle of this White Musk Smoky Rose Eau de...

Perfume of the day – Elizabeth Arden Untold Eau de Parfum

Perfume of the day – Elizabeth Arden Untold Eau de Parfum

I got this miniature bottle of Elizabeth Arden’s Untold Eau de Parfum in my September Glossybox. Although it’s only a small sample I love the fact that it’s in a proper little glass bottle that was nestled inside a pretty box, not in one of those little glass phials. The design of the bottle is really pretty too, it really catches the light and would look nice on any dressing table. Elizabeth Arden describe Untold as ‘a luxurious and modern rendition of a sensuous floral composition’, for ‘the multi-faceted modern woman’. I would describe Untold as warm and gentle, it is floral without being too sweet and has a bit of mystery about it. Untold is probably not a fragrance I would have rushed out and bought if I had smelled it on someone else, but I do really like it and I will definitely be wearing it this Autumn. A full size bottle of Untold Eau de Parfum from Elizabeth Arden starts at £35 for 30ml, available from...

Perfume of the day – Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb Eau de Parfum

Perfume of the day – Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb Eau de Parfum

I went shopping in York last week and treated myself to Flowerbomb by Viktor & Rolf. It’s the perfume that I always spritz at the duty-free shop in the airport when I am going away, so the scent reminds me of excitement, anticipation…. and aeroplanes. Viktor & Rolf describe this opulent fragrance, ‘… a moodlifting, positive profusion of flowers… escapism, in a bottle…’ It is a floral perfume, centered mainly around the scents of freesia, Centifolia rose and jasmine, but has a subtle backdrop of patchouli which is why I think I like it as I don’t usually go for floral fragrances. It reminds me a bit of Thierry Mugler’s Alien perfume which I wear a lot (read my review of that here) so if you love Alien then you’ll love Flowerbomb too. I love the bottle too, it looks like a multi-faceted diamond, and the pretty pink box sets it all off nicely. Prices start at £49 for a 30ml bottle of Flowerbomb, from Debenhams. Or keep an...

Perfume of the Day – The Body Shop Pink Grapefruit Eau de Toilette

Perfume of the Day – The Body Shop Pink Grapefruit Eau de Toilette

As part of a recent online haul from The Body Shop I purchased this fruity Pink Grapefruit Eau de Toilette. I just love fruity fragrances and pink grapefruit is one of my favourites, I find it so uplifting and fresh (plus I often eat half a grapefruit for breakfast!). Rather than spray it directly onto my skin I like to spritz this citrusy scent onto a scarf, jacket or floaty dress, even onto the wool throw that lives on my sofa, to surround myself with the lovely fresh Summery fragrance. If you like fruity fragrances The Body Shop has a full range including satsuma and mango. Pink Grapefruit Eau de Toilette is reasonably priced at just £8.50 for 30ml, available from The Body Shop. Plus, The Body Shop often has online discounts available so watch out for these and you may be able to grab a bargain! If you enjoyed reading this blog post why not follow Beauty Best Friend on...
