Lip Pencils: MAC Patent Polish vs NARS Velvet Matte

Lip Pencils: MAC Patent Polish vs NARS Velvet Matte

The popularity of lip pencils and crayons is soaring, I suspect it’s because they’re just so easy to use. I’ve been trying out two new ones to see which I prefer. In the red corner we have MAC Patent Polish Lip Pencil and in the blue corner we have NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil. So let’s get ready to rumble while I put them through their paces…. Although the packaging of these two is quite similar the formulation and finish of the lip colours are very different – MAC Patent Polish is a light gloss and NARS Velvet Matte has a stark matte finish. So whether you prefer your lips sheer and glossy or pigmented and matte there should be something for everyone here. MAC Patent Polish Lip Pencil – this is the first lip pencil that I’ve tried from MAC (apart from lip liner) and I’m really impressed with it. As the name suggests the finish is a very shiny gloss that gives an almost patent shine, it has the...

So Eco vs EcoTools make-up brushes

So Eco vs EcoTools make-up brushes

Make-up brushes are big business at the moment with many brands jostling to take over the market. There are cheap brushes, expensive brushes, coloured brushes, mini brushes… the list goes on. But the niche that I’m going to be looking at today is natural eco-friendly brushes. Made from natural renewable materials, cruelty free bristles and with recyclable packaging these socially responsible brands target those of us with a conscience when it comes to our make-up brushes and applicators. I’ve been trying out two brushes – Skin Perfecting Brush* from EcoTools and Blush Brush* from So Eco. Both of these brands produce eco-friendly make-up brushes (hence their names both have ‘eco’ in them) and whilst you might have already seen EcoTools brushes for sale online and in Boots stores the So Eco brand may be one that is new to you. EcoTools Skin Perfecting Brush – this brush has short squat bristles which makes it excellent for pressing cream products into the skin, a bit like a stippling brush but...

Lancome – Hypnose Mascara vs Hypnose Star Mascara

Lancome – Hypnose Mascara vs Hypnose Star Mascara

Today I am going to do a comparison between 2 of Lancome’s bestselling black mascaras – Hypnose and Hypnose Star. The two mascaras pictures above are actually mini samples, but the main area that I want to focus on is the shape of the brushes. Firstly, I was really impressed with the formula of both of these mascaras (I suspect the formula is probably the same, or at least very similar). With a lot of mascaras, including Benefit’s star product They’re Real, I experience black smudging just under my eyebrows where the top of my upper lashes touch my skin, however I didn’t get this problem with either Hypnose or Hypnose Star. Lancome Hypnose Mascara has a unique PowerFull™ Brush which is made up of 1,000 sensor bristles and aims to build up volume. The brush does not taper to a point, rather it has more of a bulbous end and I found this useful to hold vertically and touch up the outer corners of my lashes and my...
