Is Pycnogenol the new wonder skincare supplement?

Is Pycnogenol the new wonder skincare supplement?

Beauty supplements are big news at the moment, if it’s not a soft drink that promises to get rid of your wrinkles then it’s a herbal tea that helps you to lose weight or a supplement tablet that promises younger looking skin. But what’s the truth about this type of ‘get beautiful quick’ supplement and do they really work? I’ve been taking part in the Pycnogenol trial which involves taking a herbal supplement every day for a month and using Clarins Double Serum* on my skin alongside the supplement so that I’m treating my skin from both within and on the outside too. You’d be forgiven if you’ve not heard of Pycnogenol before, it’s a herbal supplement derived from pine bark that can be used in the treatment of many ailments including allergies, circulation problems, asthma and high blood pressure. But it has also been found to have positive effects on the skin, some of its benefits include: a potent antioxidant it can reduce and slow the effects of ageing...

Is blusher going out of fashion?

Is blusher going out of fashion?

So the hottest make-up trend on the block is currently contouring, everyone’s having a go (some successfully and some unsuccessfully!). Made ever more popular by Kim Kardashian’s pre-contour blending selfies that showed how even top celebrities need a bit of extra help to get that chiselled look. And have you seen Adele’s cheekbones in the Hello video!? Stunning. So in this contour fuelled frenzy has good old blusher lost its place in the make-up ranks? Are we all ditching the rosy cheeked fresh faced look for sharp cheekbones and highlighted nose tips? Personally I love a bit of blusher – it can give your face a real pick-me-up when you’re looking a bit pasty and tired, or a subtle glow in the Summer. Cream blush can double up as a lip product and it’s been a favourite product for so long that there’s a blusher out there to suit everyone. Did you know that blusher (called ‘rouge’ back then) was used as early as in Ancient Egypt? And crushed mulberries were...

Clarins – Instant Light Natural Lip Perfector in Toffee Pink Shimmer

Clarins – Instant Light Natural Lip Perfector in Toffee Pink Shimmer

OK so a couple of years ago I reviewed a pair of lip glosses from Clarins that I have used SO MUCH since… they were Instant Light Natural Lip Perfectors in Nude Shimmer and Rosewood Shimmer. I wear them on their own, over nude lipstick, over pink lipstick, pretty much with anything and everything. So imagine how excited I was when I heard that Clarins have recently launched a new Toffee Pink Shimmer shade of Natural Lip Perfector*! Now if you’re a regular reader of Beauty Best Friend then you’ll know that pink is pretty much my favourite colour for lips and that I’m on a mission to find the perfect shade of pink lipstick (you can read a couple of my posts about my search here and here). So a pink version of my favourite lip gloss is very exciting! Instant Light Natural Lip Perfectors are a sheer lip gel with a subtle colour and a super-sweet vanilla flavour. The ingredients include Shea Butter and Mango which soften the lips...

New Autumn 2015 make-up from Clarins

New Autumn 2015 make-up from Clarins

I can’t believe we’re talking about Autumn already! This year is just flying by, before we know it it’ll be Christmas! Clarins have recently launched their new Autumn 2015 make-up range, a seductive collection focusing on the eyes. The new products allow you to easily transform from soft beige and fresh pink daytime shades to sultry evening looks with purples and carbon blacks. I’ve been lucky enough to try out three of their new products: Clarins Ombre Matte Eyeshadows* – these two eyeshadows have a unique cream-to-powder formula, so they apply smoothly like a cream but then have the hold of a powder. One of the ingredients is Bamboo Powder and this helps to give the shadows a matte and even finish. The shades are called Carbon and Heather – Carbon is a dark shade, almost black, and should be used sparingly or smudged to give a sultry look, whereas Heather is a smoky purple shade and can be used all over the eyelid or stippled into the crease of the eye. Unfortunately...

Limited edition Summer 2015 products from Clarins

Limited edition Summer 2015 products from Clarins

I love a limited edition product, they always seem to have such a buzz around them and these two offerings from Clarins are no exception. They are Instant Light Radiance Boosting Complexion Base in Apricot* and Summer Bronzing Compact*, both part of the Clarins Aquatic Treasures Summer Make-Up Collection which was launched in May 2015. Aquatic Treasures is all about capturing the textures and shades of the ocean and all of the products within the limited edition collection aim to illuminate the skin and help give a glowing complexion. Instant Light Radiance Boosting Complexion Base in Apricot – I’ve actually reviewed this product before but in a different shade – Rose – you can read my review of that here. It’s quite a luxury product that you can use to add a bit of colour or shimmer to your complexion. This Apricot shade is a limited edition and can be used to give your skin a healthy warm glow and it also contains Clarins’ anti-pollution complex to help protect skin from...

Clarins – After Sun Shimmer Oil

Clarins – After Sun Shimmer Oil

I hadn’t planned on publishing this review of Clarins After Sun Shimmer Oil* until next week, but given that I’ve been using it so much over the last few days of sunny weather I thought I’d get it written and live now! I’ve been spending lots of time sat out in the garden (carefully protecting my skin of course) and then applying this beautiful limited edition After Sun Shimmer Oil in an evening to soothe and nourish my skin. It’s a lightweight oil that contains Hazelnut Oil, Vitamin E and essential oils of Mandarin, Grapefruit and Ylang Ylang. It helps to rehydrate and nourish the skin but doesn’t leave it feeling sticky or oily. Contained within the oil are fine flecks of golden iridescent shimmer – these settle to the bottom of the glass bottle when it has been left and you need to give it a good shake to evenly distribute the shimmer before applying: I actually prefer using an oil aftersun to a cream product as I...

Clarins – Instant Light Radiance Boosting Complexion Base

Clarins – Instant Light Radiance Boosting Complexion Base

Another Clarins review for you today, and this one’s a bit of a luxury. It’s a recent addition to their Instant Light range, called Radiance Boosting Complexion Base*, aimed at illuminating and correcting the skin prior to applying your foundation. It comes in 3 shades and I’ve been testing out the Rose shade, which has been developed for all skin shades to help brighten the complexion. Clarins Instant Light Radiance Boosting Complexion Base is a lightweight cream with a floral rose scent and comes in a pump tube so it’s really easy and non-messy to dispense. It can be applied directly to the skin before applying foundation, or it can also be mixed with a liquid or cream foundation to add a shimmer and lightness to the base product. You can also apply it to the skin on its own, on non-make-up days, to just give the skin some brightness and lift, and it feels cool and freshening on the skin when you first apply it. I’ve been using this...

Clarins – Instant Light Lip Balm Perfectors

Clarins – Instant Light Lip Balm Perfectors

I was so excited when I was sent these Instant Light Lip Balm Perfectors* from Clarins – I’m a big fan of Clarins products, plus I love any lip product that’s sheer and creamy, and I’d read such good things about these when they first came out in January. As with all Clarins products Instant Light Lip Balm Perfectors come in the bright crimson boxes: Despite their name Instant Light Lip Balm Perfectors are more like a lip tint than a lip balm, they have the texture of a hydrating balm but quite a highly pigmented coloured tint that gives the lips a hit of colour. I was sent 2 shades to try, Orange and My Pink. Orange is… well… an obvious orange shade! But My Pink is almost magic, it’s a pale pink shade and the sensitive pigments react to the pH level of your lips creating a bespoke pink colour that’s personal to you! It works in a similar way to Dior Addict Lip Glow Color Reviver Balm...
