DIY Hello Kitty nail art

DIY Hello Kitty nail art

My nails are feeling really long and strong at the moment so I fancied doing something a bit different with them. I recently purchased some sheets of nail art stickers from eBay and thought I’d have a go with them, they’re a bit childish but I love Hello Kitty and thought they were really cute! The stickers feature Hello Kitty herself, plus little rabbits, handbags and shoes – very girly! First I painted my nails with two coats of Barry M Strawberry Ice Cream Nail Paint, this is a basic baby pink nail polish and it’s one of my favourites. Once the nail polish was dry I carefully peeled the Hello Kitty stickers off the clear backing sheet using tweezers and placed them onto the nails, before gently pressing down to ensure they were stuck. It’s definitely worth making sure the nail polish is completely dry before you attach the stickers, otherwise it’s really easy to smudge the nails. Once the stickers were attached I finished off with one...

White & Glitter Nails

White & Glitter Nails

I purchased Barry M’s Matt White Nail Paint ages ago but thought it looked a bit stark worn on its own (it looks a little bit like you’ve painted your nails in Tipp-Ex if you don’t do it really neatly!). So I decided to pair it up with a glitter polish to create a vivid sparkly effect. I decided to use Diamond Arcade from Nails Inc, one of the most vibrant and sparkly glitter polishes that I’ve tried. Nails Inc called it a ‘Nail Jewellery Top Coat’ and when the light catches the glitter particles it really can look like you’re wearing jewellery on your nails! First I painted 2 coats of the Barry M Matt White Nail Paint over my nails and left to dry. It very opaque and works really well as a base colour – it would also work well as part of a French manicure or to create white accents in a nail art design. Then I painted a coat of the Nails Inc Diamond Arcade...

Easter Herringbone Nail Art

Easter Herringbone Nail Art

A couple of weeks ago I was sent three Benecos Nail Polishes* and was challenged to create some nail art with them. Never shy of a challenge I set to work and came up with this simple but effective multi-coloured herringbone design that I wore on my nails over Easter. Benecos is a natural beauty brand and their nail polishes are free from toluene, camphor, phthalates, formaldehyde and colophony – these are chemicals found in regular nail polish which are thought to be harmful. In order to create my Easter nail art I first painted alternate nails using each of the three coloured Benecos nail polishes in turn: The three colours that I was sent are Sharp Rose (the pale rose tinted shade), French Lavender (the purple shade) and Rose Passion (the ginger shade). I think Rose Passion is a bit of an odd name for the browny ginger shade, it doesn’t really have any hint of pink in it at all, but it’s still a lovely polish and...

Ted Baker – Faked To Perfection Nails

Ted Baker – Faked To Perfection Nails

If you’re a fan of false nails then you’ll be pleased to know that Ted Baker have recently brought out a new range of ‘Faked To Perfection’ artificial nails, I was lucky enough to be sent the Rose Gold* set to try out. They come in the same cute sweet shop packaging as the Sweet On You Nail Duo that I reviewed last year. The pack contains 24 artificial nails, a small tube of nail glue and a weird white plastic applicator stick. (I didn’t find that the applicator stick was much help, it didn’t hold the nails very well and made it impossible to press the nails firmly onto the nail bed, it was much easier to apply the nails using my fingers). The set comes in a clear box which is really handy to keep the spares and the glue in after you’ve applied the nails. The Rose Gold set are a pretty pale pink colour with a shiny metallic rose gold tip, really beautiful and rose...

EBay Budget Nail Art Supplies

EBay Budget Nail Art Supplies

I love finding bargains on EBay, there’s just about everything you can think of on there (and a lot more besides), and it always shocks me at how many items you can pick up for just 99p including postage! So I decided to show my readers some of the nail art inspired bargains I’ve bought from EBay over the past few months. You may recognise these French Nail Tip Stickers as the ones that I used in my Neon Chevron French Mani Tutorial last Summer. They’re basically sheets of little sticker strips that you peel off and stick onto the nail just below the tip, then you paint your white tip (or whatever colour you fancy) and remove the sticker and… hey presto, you get a lovely neat straight line on your nail tip. The stickers pictured above include straight edges, plus chevrons and hearts, and you get 10 sheets. You don’t need to just use white polish for your nail tips, you could use brights like I’ve done with...

Ciate – Paint Pots in Pocket Money

Ciate – Paint Pots in Pocket Money

How stunning do Ciate Paint Pots look with their unique bottle shape and little black bow?! This is Pocket Money, and it’s the first Ciate nail polish that I ever purchased. Ciate (pronounced ‘See-are-tey’) is a London brand and they’re always bringing out innovative new nail products including their recent Shell Manicure whereby you sprinkle a layer of shimmery crushed shells directly onto a layer of wet nail polish. Check out the Ciate website to view their full range of nail polishes and special effects. Pocket Money is a creamy caramel colour with quite a glossy finish – very chic, it’s one of my favourites and I always receive nice comments when I’m wearing it. The brush is made up of 250 bristles and is flat and wide which means that it takes less strokes to apply the polish across the whole nail and makes it quicker and easier to get a neat finish. As I’ve already mentioned I love Ciate’s packaging, the uniquely shaped bottles are set off...

Glitter Tattoo Set

Glitter Tattoo Set

A bit of fun today as I’m reviewing this Glitter Tattoo Set… it’s aimed at kids (or maybe just big kids!) and if you’re bit too grown up for this then why not buy it for a girl who’s on school holidays? The Glitter Tattoo Set contains everything you need to apply your own temporary glitter tattoos, and I have to say they give a really good result which will last quite a few days. The set includes body glue, 2 applicator brushes, 7 pots of glitter in different colours and lots of stencils. I purchased the ‘Girls Day Out’ set so all of the stencils are quite girly, but there are different sets available (some include more boyish stencils such as skulls and spiders) and you can also buy the stencils separately on Ebay if you run out. The image above gives you a closer look at all of the stencils that are included in the Glitter Tattoo Set. Personally I love the stars, hearts, butterflies and seahorses,...

Blue Sparkle & Nude Nails

Blue Sparkle & Nude Nails

I created this Blue Sparkle & Nude nail look using one of my favourite nail polishes and a brand new one. Barry M’s Gelly Nail Paint in Lychee is a nail polish that I love and I use it over and over again, both on it’s own which looks really classy or incorporated in nail art and I have used it here as the nude base underneath the blue sparkly tips. The glittery blue polish is part of the Essence Effect Nail Polish* range and it’s called ‘Party In A Bottle’ which I think is a fun name. If you’ve not heard of Essence before this is because they’ve only recently launched in the UK, you might want to have a read of my post about the UK launch of Essence make-up to find out more. First I painted 2 coats of the Barry M Gelly Nail Paint in Lychee over my nails and left to dry. It works really well as a base colour underneath glitters and nail art as...
