Kiehl’s VIP Blogger Evening in York

Last Wednesday I was lucky enough to be invited along to the Kiehl’s VIP Blogger Event at their store in York. I’d visited the store a few weeks ago and had my skin diagnosed by Store Manager Hannah, then received a free mini facial that I wrote about here, and I’ve been using their products since so I was looking forward to seeing what other bloggers thought about the Kiehl’s experience.
Just a few years ago the only Kiehl’s stores in the UK were in London, but now there are a lot more and they appear in many major cities throughout the country. The York store is only small, it’s nestled away on traditional Stonegate next to Mulberry Hall and opposite White Stuff – blink and you’ll miss it! But once inside the old fashioned building the store goes way back and there was plenty of room to accommodate the 7 bloggers that attended the evening.
We were welcomed into the store with bubbly and strawberries, then Kiehl’s Store Manager Hannah and Assistant Manager Laura started off by telling us the history behind the brand – it was originally an old world New York pharmacy opened in 1851 by a Mr Kiehl and a Mr Morse offering its customers herbal remedies, over-the-counter drugs, essential oils and the very first Kiehl’s branded products. Kiehl’s was also the one of the first brands to offer a specific skincare range for men! Although most of their products are fairly unisex and their packaging is very plain and practical so can be used by both men and women.
The Kiehl’s philosophy is all around diagnosing customers’ skin then prescribing the correct products for them – like the service you’d get in a pharmacy – rather than just trying to encourage people to buy any old product. We all had our skin diagnosed using clever methods that showed us just how oily or dehydrated our skin really was, then one of the bloggers had a mini facial whilst Store Manager Laura explained about the products she was using on her and also gave us lots of hints and tips about skincare. We then got chance to try out lots of their products and take photos.
Here’s a photo of myself and Laura from Laura Knows Lifestyle with Mr Bones! A Mr Bones can be found in all Kiehl’s stores and he is to remind people of Kiehl’s original background as an apothecary.
I’ve met Laura before at previous blogging events in York, and it was really nice to meet some new bloggers too – for example Kat from The Kats Paws, plus two male bloggers which was great to see as so often the world of beauty and lifestyle blogging is very female orientated.
After the skincare demonstration there was a prize draw for the lovely gift box pictured above, then we were all given goody bags containing lots of Kiehl’s samples plus some macaroons from famous Yorkshire tearoom Betty’s and a custom-made natural juice from York store Filmore & Union.
I was very excited to see that my goody bag contained a sample of Kiehl’s famous Midnight Recovery Concentrate plus a sample of Orange Flower & Lychee Aromatic Mist fragrance – I really love Kiehl’s Nashi Blossom & Pink Grapefruit Aromatic Mist so I’m hoping this one will be as good!
Next time you’re in York, or you’re passing a Kiehl’s store in another city you should definitely call in and see what they have to offer. Their staff are very knowledgeable and they’ll assess your skin before recommending the right products for you and hopefully send you off on your way with lots of samples to try before you buy!
Next time I’m in York I’ll be treating myself to Kiehl’s Actively Correcting & Beautifying BB Cream – the best BB Cream I’ve tried so far.
The Kiehl’s store in York is situated at 21 Stonegate, York YO1 8AW.
You can also buy Kiehl’s products online at the Kiehl’s website.
