Clarins Instant Light Eye Perfecting Base Review

Regular readers of Beauty Best Friend will know that Clarins is one of my favourite brands for both skincare and make-up, and today I am reviewing their new Instant Light Eye Perfecting Base*. The Clarins Instant Light range is one aimed at adding radiance to the skin and perfecting the skintone, and this eye base is enriched with oat sugar extracts which help to smooth, brighten and give radiance to eyelids while improving eyeshadow hold.

The product itself, which comes in one shade, is a bit like a thick creamy foundation in consistency and is a pale tan shade. I have been applying it to my eyelids using the pad of my ring finger and gently dotting it on to make sure it’s smoothly applied – you only need a tiny amount and it quickly dries with a matt finish. You can wear it on its own to even out the skintone on your eyelids, or underneath eyeshadow.

It’s really easy to squirt out just the right amount of Instant Light Eye Perfecting Base as the tube has a thin nozzle at the end.

I have found that it’s great at brightening and evening out any uneven pigmentation in the eyelids (red marks, veins, etc) however it’s not so brilliant used as an eye primer to prevent eyeshadow from creasing. The matt finish provides a good base for the eyeshadow to ‘grip’ to initially, and I think my eyeshadow shades even look more vibrant when they have first been applied! But after 8 hours I still find that my eyeshadow has settled into the creases in my eye socket line – I’ve even tried using Instant Light Eye Perfecting Base on just one eye, then comparing at the end of the day!

The swatch image above shows Instant Light Eye Perfecting Base applied thickly so you can clearly see the creamy pale tan shade, then what it looks like once it has been blended and thinned out.

I think it’s a must have if you don’t want to wear eyeshadow but still want your eyelids to look ‘made up’ – using regular foundation on the eyelids can look cakey, but this gives a lovely bright even texture. It’s also great if you have a particular problem with discolouration or other marks or uneven skintone on the eyelids – the Instant Light Eye Perfecting Base will cover them up with no trouble.

Clarins Instant Light Eye Perfecting Base Box

As with all Clarins products it comes in the usual trademark red box!

Instant Light Eye Perfecting Base is priced at £22 for 100ml, available from Clarins.
