The Body Shop Summer Blogger Event, York

The Body Shop Summer Blogger Event, York

A couple of weeks ago I was lucky enough to be invited to The Body Shop Summer Blog Event at my local store in Coppergate, York. This was the second The Body Shop blogger event I have been to and I have to say that they’re so enjoyable and really well planned. This event had been organised to showcase some of the new products that The Body Shop have launched for Summer – mainly the Drops of Light skincare range and the tropical new Pinita Colada range of bodycare. Sadly my photos from the event are really lacking as my camera battery is faulty and despite charging it up before I went it went flat just fifteen minutes into the evening – so many apologies! Firstly, after enjoying a glass of fizz, we watched a facial demonstration using the new Drops of Light skincare range, the main active ingredients being Vitamin C and red algae. There are four products – Cleansing Foam, Essence Lotion, Day Cream and Serum –...

Is Pycnogenol the new wonder skincare supplement?

Is Pycnogenol the new wonder skincare supplement?

Beauty supplements are big news at the moment, if it’s not a soft drink that promises to get rid of your wrinkles then it’s a herbal tea that helps you to lose weight or a supplement tablet that promises younger looking skin. But what’s the truth about this type of ‘get beautiful quick’ supplement and do they really work? I’ve been taking part in the Pycnogenol trial which involves taking a herbal supplement every day for a month and using Clarins Double Serum* on my skin alongside the supplement so that I’m treating my skin from both within and on the outside too. You’d be forgiven if you’ve not heard of Pycnogenol before, it’s a herbal supplement derived from pine bark that can be used in the treatment of many ailments including allergies, circulation problems, asthma and high blood pressure. But it has also been found to have positive effects on the skin, some of its benefits include: a potent antioxidant it can reduce and slow the effects of ageing...

Have you tried this cult lip balm?

Have you tried this cult lip balm?

So before I launch into my review of this lip balm I just wanted to give readers a quick update on why my blog has been so quiet for the past couple of weeks. Don’t worry, I haven’t gone anywhere! Since having my baby daughter last September spare time has been quite limited for me so I’ve had to carefully balance my time and squeeze in the taking of blog photos and writing of blog posts between nappy changes, feeds and cuddles. Then a couple of weeks ago I volunteered to help out a local charity with the revamp of their website – it needed a bit more work than I had originally anticipated so most of my free time over the past week or so has been taken up with that. Anyway, I’ve got a bit of a backlog of beauty products to review and I’m trying to fit in blogging where I can, but I’ll be back up to full speed very soon, you’ll just have to bear...

The lip balm that tastes good enough to eat!

The lip balm that tastes good enough to eat!

I picked up this cute Bee Good Raspberry & White Chocolate Lip Balm* in my goody bag from a recent blogger event that I attended in Leeds, the #LeedsMarchMeet. It was a social meeting for bloggers who live in the Leeds area and the aim was to raise money and collect donations for a local foodbank. I had a great time at #LeedsMarchMeet, it’s always nice to meet other bloggers – they’re such a friendly bunch! We also got crafty making our own name badges and feasted on sweets and tasty homemade cakes. There were several health and beauty goodies in my goody bag including this lip balm from Bee Good. The brand was created in 2008 by a Hampshire beekeeper and his wife when they were looking to find uses for excess honey and beeswax from their bees. The brand has leaping bunny status, meaning that their products aren’t tested on animals, and the natural ingredients of the lip balm include British beeswax, Vitamin E, Borage Oil and Echium...

Best Friend Bargains!

Best Friend Bargains!

I’ve been thinking a lot about my blog name Beauty Best Friend recently. I chose the name as I wanted to be someone my readers could trust and confide in. I wanted to share my beauty tips and recommendations with my readers like I would with my best friends. So in my role as your new (Beauty) Best Friend each weekend I will be sharing a small selection of special beauty offers with my Facebook and Twitter followers, and calling them my Best Friend Bargains! I carried out a trial last weekend, sharing four fantastic make-up deals from Escentual. The offers were mainly half price make-up discounts and got lots of interest, particularly on Twitter. So keep an eye out on my Beauty Best Friend Facebook and Twitter pages over the coming weekends for some not-to-be-missed special offers. Sometimes the Best Friend Bargains will be all from one shop, sometimes I’ll mix it up a bit and they’ll be from different suppliers. I’ll promote a mixture of skincare, make-up, haircare products,...

Murad – Invisiblur Perfecting Shield

Murad – Invisiblur Perfecting Shield

At first I wasn’t sure what Murad Invisiblur Perfecting Shield* was – I assumed that as it has SPF30 it was some kind of moisturiser, or perhaps some kind of BB Cream. To be honest even after using it for over a week I’m still not sure how I’d describe it! Murad say it’s a ‘5 in 1 multi-benefit formula‘, I’d suggest it’s a moisturising priming treatment with sunscreen! Invisiblur Perfecting Shield was a gold winner of Best New Premium Skincare Product at the 2015 Pure Beauty Magazine Awards and has also been recommended by Woman & Home magazine. The product itself is a clear gel that’s super silky smooth. The long list of ingredients include lots of natural ones such as Barley, Sunflower and Cucumber Extracts, but there are also some not so natural looking ones too. The aim of Invisiblur is to soften and prime skin whilst blurring wrinkles and imperfections, plus with SPF 30 it protects skin from the harmful effects of the sun which is...

Neal’s Yard Remedies Blogger Event, Leeds

Neal’s Yard Remedies Blogger Event, Leeds

A couple of weeks ago I was invited to the Neal’s Yard Remedies store in Victoria Quarter, Leeds, to their blogger day. Their aim was to educate bloggers from around the Yorkshire area about their natural skincare and bodycare products. I recently reviewed their amazing Mothers Bath Oil but I have to admit that this was the only product from Neal’s Yard Remedies that I’d tried so I was looking forward to finding out more. I was welcomed to the store with a glass of fizz and a selection of superb vegan canapés… The event was very informal, first of all I chatted to one of their staff (really sorry I can’t remember her name!) and she told me about the background of Neal’s Yard Remedies – starting off in the back streets of Covent Garden 30 years ago and developing into a national brand. We then discussed my skincare regime and which of their products might be right for me. One of the products she recommended was Wild Rose...
