What I got up to at the LUSH York reopening event

What I got up to at the LUSH York reopening event

LUSH is one of those brands that I’ve dabbled with but never really fully immersed myself in. I have to admit that I’m sometimes put off going into the stores by the strong scent that comes wafting out of the doors, and I’m not really a bath bomb fan either, which is kind of LUSH’s big thing. However I have read great reviews of loads of their products and they have great ethics when it comes to animal testing and using natural products – last year I reviewed a LUSH fresh facemask, Cosmetic Warrior, and it’s innovations like this that are totally different and where LUSH really stands out from its competitors. A couple of weeks ago I was invited to the big reopening event of the LUSH store in York. The store had been closed for a few weeks while it was being refurbished and I was very excited to see the result. We were welcomed to the store with drinks and a welcome speech from the store manager....

A facelift in a jar from Temple Spa

A facelift in a jar from Temple Spa

I’ve shared my feelings about Temple Spa before in my review of Repose Aromatherapy Resting Cream. Basically, my first experience was a very pushy salesperson at a wedding fair several years ago which really put me off the brand, and it took me a while to try their products again. But when I did I was really impressed, and I can honestly say that nothing I’ve reviewed since has disappointed me! Today I’m reviewing Temple Spa Trufflesque, an Ultra  Hydration & Radiance Masque for the face. Trufflesque aims to give hydration and radiance to the skin, and plumps to help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It’s a luxury mask suitable for all skin types, particularly dry or dull skin, and it helps to rejuvenate tired skin too. The impressive list of ingredients includes black truffles, gold and silk peptides, but unfortunately these expensive additives contribute to Trufflesque’s slightly expensive price tag. The first thing that strikes me about this product is the amazing packaging. All Temple Spa products have...

What’s new from The Body Shop this Valentines Day?

What’s new from The Body Shop this Valentines Day?

You may have seen that a couple of weeks ago I featured the brand new Bowhanti perfume from The Body Shop® as my Perfume of The Day. Well today I’ve got a whole host of more brand news products from The Body Shop® to show you, and I think you’ll be impressed! First up is the new Almond Milk & Honey bodycare collection, newly released on Valentines Day! With almond milk from Spain and Community Trade honey from Ethiopia, this range is perfect if you suffer from sensitive or dry skin. Almond oil helps to nourish whilst honey soothes, and they both smell fantastic too! I’ve been trying out four different products from the range: Almond Milk & Honey Soothing & Caring Shower Cream is perfect for sensitive skin, it’s really light and much thinner and runnier than a shower gel. It has a texture similar to that of pouring cream, and it smells divine (in fact all these products smell amazing!). The scent is warm and comforting like...

Organic anti-ageing skincare from EKIA

Organic anti-ageing skincare from EKIA

Regular readers of Beauty Best Friend will know that I’m a real advocate of natural and organic skincare. It’s so important that we know exactly what we’re putting on our skin, and the majority of the high street skincare brands display ingredient lists so long that they struggle to fit them on the packaging. Many of the preservatives and emulsifiers in skincare and make-up can actually have a negative effect on our skin and I’ve seen a definite improvement in my troubled complexion since I made the move to natural skincare. Natural skincare doesn’t mean all homemade yogurt masks and essential oils, you’re never going to find me in the kitchen whipping up a yogurt and avocado mask to smear on my face! There are a lot of established but little-known brands out there just waiting to be discovered, and I have been trying out three products from one of them. EKIA (not to be confused with the Swedish home furniture giant) is a French organic skincare brand that...

Moogoo – Oil Cleansing Method

Moogoo – Oil Cleansing Method

Apologies again that it’s been a while since I last posted. You may recall that I’d been helping out a local charity with their website? Well that is all completed now but I’ve had some other family stuff going on and with looking after my baby daughter spare time for blogging is pretty scarce at the moment. I haven’t lost my enthusiasm though and am busy planning all sorts of new posts for the future, so watch this space! Today I wanted to tell you all about a fantastic natural brand, Moogoo. Regular readers of Beauty Best Friend may recall that I reviewed their Full Cream Moisturiser last year, but having received this Oil Cleansing Method* cleanser in a goody bag from a blogger event a couple of months ago it fired up my love for them all over again! MooGoo is an Australian natural skincare brand that was first created when the founder adapted a cream used in dairy farms to help a family member with a skin...

Elemis Biotec Facial Treatment

Elemis Biotec Facial Treatment

A couple of weeks ago I was invited to the Elemis counter at Harvey Nichols in Leeds for a complimentary Biotec facial and to find out all about this new range. I say Elemis ‘counter’ – it’s actually a space where you can relax and try out the products, chat with the salesperson and they’ve even got a little hidden away treatment area where you can have a fantastic relaxing facial. I’d never heard of the Biotec range before and salesperson Sarah explained how it’s been developed for use when your usual skincare routine isn’t working. It helps to energise skin cells so that they react better to your usual products and treatments, so you can use it for short bursts every now and again if your skin isn’t feeling quite right. Then Sarah analysed my skin using the Elemis super-computer. She took a close-up photo of my skin then the system showed all the areas where my face had sun damage, wrinkles, uneven skintone, blemishes, oil or dehydrated patches....

Amelia Moss Natural Skincare

Amelia Moss Natural Skincare

I’m a huge fan of natural skincare, I just hate those long ingredient lists that you get on a lot of skincare labels full of complicated words that you can’t pronounce and don’t know what they are. In fact a lot of the ingredients may not actually be anything that benefits your skin at all, they could be preservatives, emulsifiers, colours or fragrances and they may actually have a detrimental effect on your skin or your health. I’m also a great believer that using natural oils on your skin is the best way forward, ever since I first tried Rosehip Oil from Trilogy I’ve been hooked! A lot of people, particularly those with oily skins, are very nervous of using oils as cleansers or moisturisers as they worry that it may make their skin even more oily. But it doesn’t, in fact using natural oils on your skin actually counteracts your skin’s natural oiliness and can help your skin to calm down. Recently I was contacted by Amelia Moss...

The Body Shop Summer Blogger Event, York

The Body Shop Summer Blogger Event, York

A couple of weeks ago I was lucky enough to be invited to The Body Shop Summer Blog Event at my local store in Coppergate, York. This was the second The Body Shop blogger event I have been to and I have to say that they’re so enjoyable and really well planned. This event had been organised to showcase some of the new products that The Body Shop have launched for Summer – mainly the Drops of Light skincare range and the tropical new Pinita Colada range of bodycare. Sadly my photos from the event are really lacking as my camera battery is faulty and despite charging it up before I went it went flat just fifteen minutes into the evening – so many apologies! Firstly, after enjoying a glass of fizz, we watched a facial demonstration using the new Drops of Light skincare range, the main active ingredients being Vitamin C and red algae. There are four products – Cleansing Foam, Essence Lotion, Day Cream and Serum –...
