Easter Herringbone Nail Art

Easter Herringbone Nail Art

A couple of weeks ago I was sent three Benecos Nail Polishes* and was challenged to create some nail art with them. Never shy of a challenge I set to work and came up with this simple but effective multi-coloured herringbone design that I wore on my nails over Easter. Benecos is a natural beauty brand and their nail polishes are free from toluene, camphor, phthalates, formaldehyde and colophony – these are chemicals found in regular nail polish which are thought to be harmful. In order to create my Easter nail art I first painted alternate nails using each of the three coloured Benecos nail polishes in turn: The three colours that I was sent are Sharp Rose (the pale rose tinted shade), French Lavender (the purple shade) and Rose Passion (the ginger shade). I think Rose Passion is a bit of an odd name for the browny ginger shade, it doesn’t really have any hint of pink in it at all, but it’s still a lovely polish and...

KISS – Gel Fantasy Nails

KISS – Gel Fantasy Nails

It was my birthday yesterday and to celebrate I thought I’d try out these Gel Fantasy* false nails from KISS. It’s ages since I’ve had nails this long, and whilst it does feel very glamorous I’d forgotten how difficult it is to do everyday tasks like type on a keyboard and open cans! Gel Fantasy are ready to wear stick-on false nails with a shiny gel-like finish. I am wearing the ‘Freshen Up’ style, a glossy black with tiny flecks of holographic glitter and large hexagons of silver glitter. The nails themselves are very long, thick plastic with a shiny clear coating, and whilst I’m not totally convinced they look like gel nails they do look very good. The pack contains 24 nails in varying sizes, a file, a wooden stick, both glue and adhesive pads and full instructions. I like the fact that you can choose how you want to apply the nails – either using traditional nail glue or the pads – I went for the glue...

Ted Baker – Faked To Perfection Nails

Ted Baker – Faked To Perfection Nails

If you’re a fan of false nails then you’ll be pleased to know that Ted Baker have recently brought out a new range of ‘Faked To Perfection’ artificial nails, I was lucky enough to be sent the Rose Gold* set to try out. They come in the same cute sweet shop packaging as the Sweet On You Nail Duo that I reviewed last year. The pack contains 24 artificial nails, a small tube of nail glue and a weird white plastic applicator stick. (I didn’t find that the applicator stick was much help, it didn’t hold the nails very well and made it impossible to press the nails firmly onto the nail bed, it was much easier to apply the nails using my fingers). The set comes in a clear box which is really handy to keep the spares and the glue in after you’ve applied the nails. The Rose Gold set are a pretty pale pink colour with a shiny metallic rose gold tip, really beautiful and rose...

Barry M – Glitter Nail Paint in Masquerade

Barry M – Glitter Nail Paint in Masquerade

This glittery beauty is Glitter Nail Paint in Masquerade from Barry M, and it was my nail paint of choice for New Years Eve. Now I’ve made no secret of the fact that I love Barry M Nail Paints, they’re so affordable and there are so many colour choices available – not to mention the array of different textures and special effects to choose from. Masquerade is a clear nail polish containing silver, purple and dark blue round glitter flecks, it’s a dark, moody glitter polish that’s perfect for Winter and parties. The glitter is really dense in this polish making it a perfect choice to wear on its own, however I chose to wear it over 2 coats of purple Zoya Odette nail polish to make the colour look more vibrant and to ensure that there weren’t any blank areas of nail showing through. (If you’re interested to read more about Zoya Nail Polishes, you might want to read my post about nail polish trend predictions for Spring Summer...

EBay Budget Nail Art Supplies

EBay Budget Nail Art Supplies

I love finding bargains on EBay, there’s just about everything you can think of on there (and a lot more besides), and it always shocks me at how many items you can pick up for just 99p including postage! So I decided to show my readers some of the nail art inspired bargains I’ve bought from EBay over the past few months. You may recognise these French Nail Tip Stickers as the ones that I used in my Neon Chevron French Mani Tutorial last Summer. They’re basically sheets of little sticker strips that you peel off and stick onto the nail just below the tip, then you paint your white tip (or whatever colour you fancy) and remove the sticker and… hey presto, you get a lovely neat straight line on your nail tip. The stickers pictured above include straight edges, plus chevrons and hearts, and you get 10 sheets. You don’t need to just use white polish for your nail tips, you could use brights like I’ve done with...

Purple Glitter Christmas Nails

Purple Glitter Christmas Nails

I created this Purple Glitter Christmas nail look all ready for the big day. I love warm berry nail colours in Winter and you can’t beat a bit of sparkle too for Christmas! The purple shade is Zoya Odette* – a sultry orchid maroon cream – I predicted it’s going to be a popular shade next Spring/Summer in my London Fashion Week post that I published in September, but I think it’s also just as good as a Winter nail polish. Zoya offers a huge range of toxin-free nail polishes (there are over 300 shades to choose from) free of the top 5 toxins usually found in nail polishes – formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin, toluene, dibutyl phthalate and camphor – that are thought to contribute to cancer and birth defects. I painted on 2 coats of Zoya Odette, it’s fairly pigmented and dark so you don’t need any more coats. You do need to apply it carefully though as any smudges really show up given that it’s such a dark shade. The glitter...

Chanel – Nail Colour in Rouge Noir

Chanel – Nail Colour in Rouge Noir

I can’t believe I haven’t reviewed Chanel’s iconic Rouge Noir nail colour before on Beauty Best Friend! It’s my favourite ever nail shade and one that I go back to time and time again. I particularly love wearing it in the Winter and at Christmas. Launched in 1994 the launch of this dark blood red shade sent women crazy trying to get their hands on it, and it was made even more famous when it was worn by Uma Thurman in the film Pulp Fiction. In its first year sales of Rouge Noir nail polish reached $1 million and a nail legend was born! I know that Chanel nail polishes sometimes get a hard rap from bloggers – they’re expensive and some people have a bad time with them chipping – but I don’t seem to have this problem with mine although I do always use a base coat and a top coat which will help. Rouge Noir looks best worn on its own on short nails – it’s...

Broadway Nails – imPRESS Press-On Manicure

Broadway Nails – imPRESS Press-On Manicure

My experiences with false nails in the past have not been good ones – I hate the state they leave my nails in after you’ve pulled them off, the glue is just too strong and harsh on the nails in my opinion. So when I was asked to try an imPRESS Press-On Manicure* from Broadway Nails I wasn’t too sure what to expect. imPRESS is a new range of false nails, created to look like a gel manicure and quick and easy to apply using the sticky tabs that are already on the back of each nail. There’s no nail glue required and you don’t need to cure them or wait for polish to dry – just apply them and you’re ready to go. Sound too good to be true? I was sent two pairs of imPRESS Press-On Manicure nails to try – the mottled blue nail art effect ones are called ‘Dancing Queen’ and the crimson ones are called ‘Call My Agent’. I decided to try out Call...
