The best value make-up brushes around?

The best value make-up brushes around?

I’m a sucker for make-up brushes, I have jars full of them on my dressing table and still I can’t resist more! Particularly when they’re cruelty free, vegan friendly, handcrafted from 100% ethically sourced materials and OH so soft like this Face Brush Kit from So Eco. You may have seen the comparison I wrote last year between So Eco Blush Brush and another similar brush, and ever since I’ve been hooked on So Eco brushes. They really are so amazingly soft and beautiful and I think that the bamboo handles look so natural and pretty. The Face Brush Kit contains four brushes, from left to right in the photo above they are: Round Foundation Brush A smallish face brush with a highly domed head, personally I use this brush to contour rather than to apply my foundation. This brush reminds me very much of the Sigma F35 Tapered Highlighter brush which has something of a cult following, and it gets into any nooks and crannies, like the corners of the...

Introducing JK Mineral Make-Up

Introducing JK Mineral Make-Up

I adore mineral make-up. I like knowing that my make-up doesn’t contain lots of nasty chemicals, I like the feel of it on my skin, I like that it doesn’t clog my pores. So when I heard about a new brand of mineral make-up I was very much looking forward to trying it out. If you haven’t heard of mineral make-up before it’s made up of natural minerals such as zinc, talc and iron oxides, elements that occur naturally within the world. These minerals are ground down into tiny particles to create powder make-up, and they don’t require any nasty preservatives, perfumes or dyes. Mineral make-up is very quickly growing in popularity and it’s thought to be very good for acne and sensitive skin as it doesn’t clog the pores like regular make-up can. JK Mineral Makeup is a new make-up range developed in the UK by Jody Knight, an elite permanent make-up artist. Jody uses permanent cosmetic treatments such as medical tattooing to help mask scars and create new...

Embryolisse Complexion Correcting Care SPF20

Embryolisse Complexion Correcting Care SPF20

I very rarely wear foundation, it’s usually only reserved for a very occasional big night out as I don’t like the way it makes my skin feel – all caked on, thick and leaving my skin struggling to breathe. My preferred go-to bases include tinted moisturisers, mineral powders and CC creams, products that are light and airy, giving sufficient coverage but letting some of my skin’s natural ‘personality’ shine through. In addition they’re usually quick and easy to apply, and I don’t have a lot of time in the morning. I’ve been trying out a CC Cream from cult brand Embryolisse, which aims to improve and treat skin whilst you’re wearing it. Complexion Correcting Care SPF20 includes Hyaluronic Acid which re-plumps skin and Biosaccharide which is an anti-ageing ingredient, plus the cream is suitable for vegans. In addition, as the name suggests, it contains SPF20 to help protect skin from the sun’s damaging rays during the day, which is really important during Winter as well as Summer. Complexion Correcting Care SPF20 is...

Lip Pencils: MAC Patent Polish vs NARS Velvet Matte

Lip Pencils: MAC Patent Polish vs NARS Velvet Matte

The popularity of lip pencils and crayons is soaring, I suspect it’s because they’re just so easy to use. I’ve been trying out two new ones to see which I prefer. In the red corner we have MAC Patent Polish Lip Pencil and in the blue corner we have NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil. So let’s get ready to rumble while I put them through their paces…. Although the packaging of these two is quite similar the formulation and finish of the lip colours are very different – MAC Patent Polish is a light gloss and NARS Velvet Matte has a stark matte finish. So whether you prefer your lips sheer and glossy or pigmented and matte there should be something for everyone here. MAC Patent Polish Lip Pencil – this is the first lip pencil that I’ve tried from MAC (apart from lip liner) and I’m really impressed with it. As the name suggests the finish is a very shiny gloss that gives an almost patent shine, it has the...

Chase the glitter rainbow with Moondust from Urban Decay

Chase the glitter rainbow with Moondust from Urban Decay

For a long time now I’ve been searching for a seriously glittery eyeshadow. Not just one that shimmers and shines, but one that actually glitters, containing tiny particles of glitter that give serious twinkle when they hit the light. I’ve experimented with actual cosmetic glitter like the fabulous budget range of cosmetic glitters from Stargazer. But I had struggled to find an actual eyeshadow that fitted the bill….. that is until now! This is the stunning Moondust eyeshadow palette from Urban Decay. Urban Decay do palettes so well, and I’d lusted after this one as soon as it was released but sadly it was sold out for ages (as is usual with so many of Urban Decay’s new releases). I finally got my hands on it last month and the wait was worth it! Firstly can we just take a moment to take in the sheer beauty of the Moondust palette…….. The hard case with mirrored word ‘moondust’ on the lid opens to reveal a rainbow of eight round pressed powder eyeshadows...

What I bought from SPACE.NK

What I bought from SPACE.NK

A couple of months ago whilst out shopping in my local city of York I came across a new SPACE.NK shop that had opened. Up until recently SPACE.NK could only be found in major cities so to find one so close to home was very exciting. I love their mix of new up-and-coming brands, well known cult ranges and little luxuries. I couldn’t leave without treating myself, so I decided on this NARS Blush in Reckless. Earlier this year I wrote a post asking if blusher is going out of fashion? The current obsession with contouring and strobing products has overtaken the need for a good old flushed cheek, but while I do love highlighters I still enjoy playing around with different shades of blush. NARS packaging is so stylish and beautiful. The black blush compact has a rubbery finish and the lid lifts up to reveal a mirror inside, whilst the pressed powder itself is covered with a clear perspex cover with the NARS wording on it. Reckless is a...

Is this the best budget highlighter ever?

Is this the best budget highlighter ever?

Highlighters have been my favourite product of 2016, and if there’s one product that I’ve wanted to try over all the rest it’s Vivid Baked Highlighter from Makeup Revolution. Makeup Revolution is the budget beauty brand that really made a splash when it was introduced a couple of years ago, and I’ve read so many amazing reviews of their pressed powder highlighter that costs just £3 that I couldn’t resist trying it. This is a real beauty bloggers favourite product, I haven’t met anyone that hasn’t liked it! There are 4 shades in the Vivid Baked Highlighter range, I opted for Golden Lights. It’s a multi-use baked highlighting powder in white lustre with a golden shimmer. Of course you can use it to light up the cheekbones, but it’s also great for using as an eyeshadow (just smudge a tad under the brow arch using the ring finger), highlighting collarbones or shoulders in Summer, dusting over the décolleté area or using sparingly for contouring to highlight temples, cheekbones, the tip...

The newest addition to the Lancôme Juicy family!

The newest addition to the Lancôme Juicy family!

Lancôme Juicy Tubes changed my life. Ok, well that’s a slight exaggeration but it was the first high-end make-up item that I ever bought and it made me feel like I was really getting somewhere. I’d got a good job, was in the process of buying my own house and I could afford to buy premium beauty products. I chose a transparent lemon yellow gloss with tiny flecks of iridescent glitter in, and over the following months I treated myself to several other Juicy Tube variants including a shimmery nude gloss called Pamplemousse which I wore on nights out for years (incidentally Pamplemousse is still going!). Fast forward several (ahem…) years and Juicy Tubes are still going strong, but there’s a new member of the Juicy family vying for attention – the Juicy Shaker.*. Another lip product, this one is a nourishing tinted lip oil which acts a bit like a gloss, and I was sent two of the new shades to try out – Piece of Cake and...
