Batiste Dry Shampoo – Tropical

Batiste Dry Shampoo – Tropical

I’ve reviewed a few of the different ‘flavours’ of Batiste Dry Shampoo over the past couple of years, including the Light & Blonde variety. Dry Shampoo really is a lifesaver product and I’m never without a can on my dressing table – and I always go for Batiste as it’s the original, traditional dry shampoo. If you’ve never tried dry shampoo before it absorbs grease from the surface of your hair, helping to remove the shiny look of hair that could do with a wash, and it also adds texture and volume to freshly washed hair ideal if you want to create an up-do. In my opinion Batiste is the only brand of dry shampoo to buy, it’s been around forever and there’s a variety to suit everyone. I decided to choose the Tropical scented option last week when I purchased my latest can of Batiste Dry Shampoo. It’s described as ‘coconut & exotic’ and it certainly is that! It’s very highly perfumed with coconut and smells just like a desert island!...

Benecos – Shampoo for Silky Hair

Benecos – Shampoo for Silky Hair

You may have read some of my reviews of SLS-free shampoos in the past, for example this Sensitive Shampoo from Lavera, and know that I suffer from a very sensitive and itchy scalp. I’ve narrowed the cause down to the ingredients in shampoo and conditioner and now I always choose haircare products that are free of sodium laureth sulphate (SLS) and that contain as many natural ingredients as possible. Benecos is a brand that I haven’t tried before, the name means literally means ‘good cosmetics’ – in Latin the word ‘bene’ means ‘good’. All of their products are free of parabens & silicones etc, contain 100% natural and organic ingredients and are certified vegan. I’ve been using their Shampoo for Silky Hair* for almost three weeks now, the ingredients include organic Apple Flower Extract. The shampoo is quite runny and an opaque golden colour, very much like runny honey. It has a gentle sweet scent too that I really like. The only problem is that as it’s quite runny you need...

The best shampoo for a sensitive scalp?

The best shampoo for a sensitive scalp?

Regular readers of Beauty Best Friend blog will know that I suffer from an extremely sensitive scalp which can be really itchy, and I have to be very careful what shampoo I use. I know that I’m sensitive to shampoos containing sodium laureth sulfate (also known as SLS, it’s the ingredient that makes shampoos, shower gels and soaps lather) but I’m also sensitive to some other ingredients in shampoos too – mainly fragrances. I had previously been using Rainforest Balance Shampoo and Conditioner from The Body Shop®, but I found the conditioner a bit too rich and my hair didn’t always feel totally clean after using it. So I started doing a bit of research into recommended natural shampoos – and this Sensitive Shampoo from Lavera kept coming up again and again! Several of the reviews I read said that this was the best shampoo for sensitive scalps and that it left hair feeling really clean and soft, so I decided to try it. The shampoo is a translucent...

Every day can be a good hair day with Alchemy

Every day can be a good hair day with Alchemy

I’ve been raving about this Grapefruit Hair Remedy from Alchemy Oils on Twitter for days now, this is an all natural product that helps nourish and condition your hair. The Grapefruit Hair Remedy is a blend of 5 natural oils – Coconut, Avocado, Almond, Castor oils which all work to promote growth, thicken hair and add a lustrous shine, plus citrusy Grapefruit oil which fights dandruff and helps keep the scalp healthy. I have thick wavy blonde hair which can get quite dry and frizzy due to over-straightening, so I like to treat it every now and again to some kind of treatment. This one sounded perfect as it only contains natural ingredients. You shouldn’t be scared of using oils, they’re great for every bit of your body and I love to use an oil on my face too, you can read all about one of my favourites here. As you can see from the ingredients list above there’s nothing else added to this hair oil, and therefore it...

Roger & Gallet – Huile Gourmande

Roger & Gallet – Huile Gourmande

I wasn’t really sure what to expect when I was asked if I would try this Huile Gourmande Ultra Nourishing Oil* from Roger & Gallet. I’d never tried a skincare product from Roger & Gallet before and thought of them as a brand that do lovely little packaged gift boxes of soap but nothing more. But now that I’ve tried it I am literally hooked! Firstly I love the packaging of this Roger & Gallet oil, the rose gold coloured glass bottle is really beautiful and the back of the bottle has a pretty fig illustration running down the length. I love Roger & Gallet’s branding too, it’s pretty and traditionaly without being old fashioned. The oil is dispensed from the bottle via a spray, and it spritzes out just enough – a really well thought out bottle. The oil contains grape, pomegranate, blackcurrant, apricot and sweet almond oils, rich in omega 6 and antioxidant vitamins A and E, and it has the most beautiful fruity scent. It reminds...

Batiste – Dry Shampoo in Cherry

Batiste – Dry Shampoo in Cherry

I’m a massive fan of the lifesaver product that is Batiste Dry Shampoo. I have already reviewed the ‘Clean and Classic Original’ variety and the Light & Blonde variant. Today I am reviewing the fruity and cheeky Cherry fragranced version. Batiste Dry Shampoo works by absorbing the oil on the surface of the hair, you just spray it sparingly over dry hair and then style as normal – only make sure you don’t apply too much as it can leave hair looking a bit ‘talcy’. The Cherry is the same as the original one except that it has the lovely fragrance of cherries – the fragrance is fairly strong when you first spray it, but it fades quickly leaving a gentle sweet scent in your hair. The only downside with Batiste Dry Shampoo is that the spray is rather violent and loud (and scares my cats!), I would prefer a more gentle spray like you get from a hairspray can. I love the retro design on the can and the logo. Batiste Dry...

Salcura – Sensitive & Dry Scalp Shampoo & Conditioner

Salcura – Sensitive & Dry Scalp Shampoo & Conditioner

I was recently sent a whole host of skincare and haircare products from natural skincare specialists Salcura – you may have already read my review of their Antiac Daily Facial Wash and Activ Liquid Spray. Included in the package was this haircare duo of Shampoo and Conditioner* for sensitive and dry scalps, the aim of which is to ‘deal with a problem scalp and leave hair looking full of vitality’. I have had problems with a dry itchy scalp for about 3 years now, at its worst I visited the doctor who gave me a steroid liquid to apply to my scalp every night before bed. At first it did soothe the itching, but after a couple of weeks it started making my scalp sting and the dry flakes got worse and I vowed then I would treat it myself using gentle natural products. I have found that using sodium laureth sulphate free shampoos do help and the itching isn’t as bad as it used to be, but my...

Save The Blow Dry – Turquoise Shower Cap

Save The Blow Dry – Turquoise Shower Cap

A few months ago I was lucky enough to be able to try out and review a revolutionary new shower cap, Save The Blow Dry. Dubbed ‘the queen of shower caps’ the new quirky pink bathroom accessory had been developed to zap humidity and condensation, bathroom-proofing hair to leave it dry and bouncy. Plus, this new shower cap is large enough to protect even the longest and thickest of styles. You can read my full review of Save The Blow Dry here. So, “What’s new?” I hear you ask. Well, the lovely people over at Save The Blow Dry have only gone and made their ground-breaking shower cap in turquoise!! The image above shows the new turquoise Save The Blow Dry shower cap* in all it’s glory. It’s a lovely bright colour and perfect for anyone who doesn’t like pink, or even men who want to protect their perfectly blow-dried styles whilst in the shower. Now there’s no point in me going over old ground, I’ve already spoken about...
